Gjutningens arenor : metallhantverkets rumsliga, sociala och politiska organisation i södra Skandinavien under bronsåldern

Bronset var centralt i kommunicerandet av social ordning under bronsåldern. Metallen användes för yxor, skäror och andra redskap, men också för extravaganta dräktattribut, kultföremål och rituell rekvisita. Människornas kontroll över metallen ses av forskningen som en viktig orsak till ekonomisk och social ojämlikhet, och utvecklingen mot ett allt mer hierarkiskt samhälle. Bronshantverket hade därmed kopplingar till makt och ideologi, och var delvis ett redskap för samhällets elit att uttrycka social prestige. Den tolkning som dominerat under 1900-talet är att prestigeföremålen tillverkades av skickliga specialisthantverkare på centrala verkstadsplatser, medan hushållsproduktion av enkla föremål var mer utbredd i bygderna. I ”Gjutningens arenor” tar Anna Sörman ett nytt grepp på frågan ombronsgjutningens kontext och organisationen av metallhantverket – rumsligt, socialt och politiskt. Utifrån undersökta platser med gjutavfall, i form av kasserade deglar och gjutformar, analyseras bronshantverkets rumsliga organisation. Anna Sörman gör även en omtolkning av de ikoniska ”ugnarna” på Hallunda-boplatsen. I avhandlingen presenteras nya tolkningar av gjutningens roll vid initiationsritualer, hur hantverkstraditionen förändrades över tid samt vilka särskilda egenskaper hos teknologin som exploaterades socialt. Genom ökad förståelse för lokaliseringen och iscensättningen av gjutningen öppnas nya fönster mot bronsets och hantverkets betydelse och värde för dåtidens människor. Anna Sörman är arkeolog med särskilt intresse för bronsåldern, arkeologins roll i samhället samt användningen av uppdragsarkeologiska resultat i universitetsforskningen.
