Her father’s constant mantra was: ‘The further away from family, the better.’ As a result, Annette and her family followed him around the UK, then to Ethiopia, returning home to two English towns, before emigrating to the horrors of apartheid-era South Africa, which proved to be the family’s nemesis.Annette found that life had become meaningless.
