Javier Esparza received his primary degree in Theoretical Physics and in 1990 his PhD in Computer Science from the University of Zaragoza. After positions at the University of Hildesheim, the University of Edinburgh, and the Technical University of Munich, he then held professorships at the University of Edinburgh and the University of Stuttgart, and finally returned to TU Munich where he currently holds the Chair of Foundations of Software Reliability and Theoretical Computer Science.Javier is a leading researcher in concurrency theory, distributed and probabilistic systems, Petri nets, analysis of infinite-state models, and more generally formal methods for the verification of computer systems. He has coauthored over 200 publications, many of them highly influential. He coauthored the monographs Free Choice Petri Nets, and Unfoldings: A Partial Order Approach to Model Checking, and more recently the textbook Automata Theory: An Algorithmic Approach. The latter is an exampleof Javier’s many activities as a teacher, he has supervised more than 20 PhD students, taught at more than 20 summer schools, and won many awards for his university teaching. He is regularly invited to deliver plenary talks at prestigious computer science conferences and participate in senior program committees, he has contributed as a senior member of technical working groups, society councils, and journal editorial boards, and in 2021 he became a founding Editor-in-Chief of the open-access TheoretiCS journal.This Festschrift celebrates Javier’s contributions on the occasion of his 60th birthday, the contributions reflect the breadth and depth of his successes in Petri nets, concurrency in general, distributed and probabilistic systems, games, formal languages, logic, program analysis, verification, and synthesis.

This volume contains the proceedings of the 13th International Conference on Concurrency Theory (CONCUR 2002)held in Brno, Czech Republic, August 20-23, 2002. The purpose of the CONCUR conferences is to bring together researchers, - velopers and students in order to advance the theory of concurrency, and promote its applications. Interest in this topic is continuously growing, as a consequence of the importance and ubiquity of concurrent systems and their applications, and of the scienti?c relevance of their foundations. The scope covers all areas of semantics, logics and veri?cation techniques for concurrent systems. T- ics include concurrency-related aspects of models of computation and semantic domains, process algebras, Petri nets, event structures, real-time systems, - brid systems, probabilistic systems, model-checking, veri?cation techniques, - ?nement techniques, term and graph rewriting, distributed programming, logic constraint programming, object-oriented programming, typing systems and - gorithms, security, case studies, tools and environments for programming and veri?cation. The ?rst two CONCUR conferences were held in Amsterdam (The Neth- lands)in 1990 and 1991, the following ones in Stony Brook (USA), Hildesheim (Germany), Uppsala (Sweden), Philadelphia (USA), Pisa (Italy), Warsaw (Poland), Nice (France), Eindhoven (The Netherlands), University Park (Pe- sylvania, USA), and Aalborg (Denmark).The proceedings have appeared in Springer LNCS, as Vols. 458, 527, 630, 715, 836, 962, 1119, 1243, 1466, 1664, 1877, and 2154. Out of 101 regular papers submitted this year, 32 were accepted for p- sentation at the conference and are included in this volume.

This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 32nd International Symposium on Mathematical Foundations of Computer Science, MFCS 2007, held in Cesky Krumlov, Czech Republic, August 2007. The 61 revised full papers presented together with the full papers or abstracts of five invited talks address all current aspects in theoretical computer science and its mathematical foundations.

This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 35th Conference on Current Trends in Theory and Practice of Computer Science, SOFSEM 2009, held in Špindleruv Mlýn, Czech Republic, in January 2009.The 49 revised full papers, presented together with 9 invited contributions, were carefully reviewed and selected from 132 submissions. The series of MFCS symposia, organized in rotation by Poland, Slovakia, and the Czech Republic since 1972, has a long and well-established tradition. The 35th International Symposium on Mathematical Foundations of C- puter Science (MFCS 2010) was organized in parallel with the 19th EACSL Annual Conference on Computer Science Logic (CSL 2010). The federated MFCS and CSL 2010 conference had shared plenary sessions and social events forallparticipants,butthescienti?cprogramandtheproceedingswereprepared independently for both events. Out of 149 regular submissions to MFCS 2010, the Program Committee - lected 56 papers for presentation at the conference and publication in this v- ume. Each paper was reviewed by at least three Program Committee members with the help of outside experts, and the actual selection was based on a sub- quent electronic discussion. This volume contains the papers presented at the 4th International Workshop on Reachability Problems, RP 2010 held during August 28-29, 2010 in the F- ulty of Informatics, Masaryk University, Brno, Czech Republic and co-located with Joint MFCS and CSL 2010 (35th InternationalSymposiums on Mathem- ical Foundations of Computer Science and 19th EACSL Annual Conferences on Computer Science Logic). RP 2010 was the fourth in the series of workshops following three successful meetings at Ecole Polytechnique, France in 2009 at University of Liverpool, UK in 2008 and at Turku University, Finland in 2007. TheReachabilityProblemsworkshopsseriesaimsatgatheringtogethersch- ars from diverse disciplines and backgrounds interested in reachability problems that appearin algebraicstructures,computationalmodels, hybridsystems, logic and veri?cation, etc. Reachability is a fundamental problem in the context of many models and abstractions which describe various computational processes. Analysisofthecomputationaltracesandpredictabilityquestionsforsuchmodels can be formalized as a set of di?erent reachability problems.In general, reac- bility can be formulated as follows: Given a computational system with a set of allowed transformations (functions), decide whether a certain state of a system is reachable from a given initial state by a set of allowed transformations. The same questions can be asked not only about reachability of exact states of the system but also about a set of states expressed in terms of some property as a parameterized reachability problem. Another set of predictability questions can be seen in terms of reachability of eligible traces of computations,unavoidability ofsomedynamicsandapossibilitytoavoidundesirabledynamicsusingalimited control.

This volume contains the post-proceedings of the 8th Doctoral Workshop on Mathematical and Engineering Methods in Computer Science, MEMICS 2012, held in Znojmo, Czech Republic, in October, 2012.The 13 thoroughly revised papers were carefully selected out of 31 submissions and are presented together with 6 invited papers. The topics covered by the papers include: computer-aided analysis and verification, applications of game theory in computer science, networks and security, modern trends of graph theory in computer science, electronic systems design and testing, and quantum information processing.
