En el contexto de la enseñanza de español como lengua extranjera para estudiantes suecos, el problema de la alternancia imperfecto/indefinido es un hecho que, en gran medida, dificulta a los estudiantes la adquisición de estos tiempos verbales, y a los profesores su enseñanza. A partir del gran interés que existe sobre el accionar de estos elementos y en la forma en que se instruyen y aprenden, se realizó una investigación empírica sobre las dificultades en el uso de los tiempos del pasado con verbos estativos y de logro por estudiantes suecos de español. El objetivo principal de nuestro estudio es describir las dificultades a las que se enfrentan los alumnos suecos de nivel A2, B1 y B2 en el uso correcto o adecuado de estos tiempos verbales cuando se emplean con estos tipos de verbos. Consideramos que con los resultados del estudio se aporta información significativa para el tratamiento de estas formas verbales. Al mismo tiempo, es nuestro propósito que este estudio contribuya para estudios posteriores sobre la selección de las formas del pretérito imperfecto y del pretérito indefinido (perfecto simple) en ELE, tanto en el ámbito de la lingüística aplicada como en el de su didáctica para aprendientes de diferentes lenguas maternas.
