Am 7. Juli 2014 beginnt der bisher letzte der vielen Kämpfe um den Gazastreifen. Inmitten aller Pressestimmen zum Geschehen tauchen in den führenden Zeitungen der Welt Tagebuchtexte auf. Ihr Autor: Atef Abu Saif, ein in der arabischen Welt bekannter Romancier. Er hält fest, was um ihn herum geschieht. Wie er mit seiner Frau den Alltag bewältigt. Wie er seinen Kindern zu erklären versucht, warum sie nicht mehr auf die Straße dürfen. Wie er mit der Angst kämpft, wenn vor dem Fenster die Drohne surrt. In einundfünfzig Tagebucheinträgen, vom ersten bis zum letzten Tag des Kriegs, ohne Polemik, ohne Schuldzuweisungen, erzählt Atef Abu Saif das Unvorstellbare. Von Tragödien, von Verzweiflung, von gegenseitiger Hilfe, von heiteren Momenten trotz allem und von einer unausrottbaren Zuversicht der Menschen.

Der etwa 60 jährige Naîm ist Inhaber eines Copy-Shops, in dem Poster von Gefallenen ("Märtyrern") produziert werden. Als er im Jahr 2011 durch einen Blindgänger getötet wird, entsteht zwischen seinem Sohn Salmân, und seinem Neffen Nasr, eine Debatte, ob Naîm Held oder Opfer ist – eine Grundsatzdebatte, die das ganze Buch durchzieht.Später kommt es zu heftigen Zusammenstößen zwischen der Bevölkerung des Lagers und der Gaza-Verwaltung, als es um die Bebauung des Hügels geht, auf dem u.a. Naîms Haus steht. Diese Zusammenstöße zeigen den Versuch der Gesellschaft, sich gegen die wachsende Machtclique zu wehren, die sich nicht scheut, auch die Religion mittels mehr oder weniger Gewalt in ihre Dienste zu nehmen.Der Roman ist ein interessantes und eindrucksvolles "Dokument" des Palästina-"Problems" vom besonderen Blickwinkel des Gazastreifens aus.Dieser Roman ist im Jahre 2014 erschienen.
