Community service work is an ideal way not only to help define how young people deal with each other but actually to facilitate these interactions and help them achieve meaning in their lives. Philosophical Foundations of Evolutionary Psychology describes the unique relationship between early schools of thought in Greek philosophy, modern psychology, and most recently evolutionary psychology. The purpose of Creating a Transformational Community: The Fundamentals of Stewardship Activities is to provide the reader with a description of the important role that community development has in establishing healthy, cooperative, and prosocial relationships among individuals residing within their neighborhoods and communities. This book examines four primary domains in how communities can grow and positively influence individual and holistic development as well as group interaction: education and organized school systems; environmental development, such as green sustainable programs; healthful nutrition; and spiritual growth and developmentAn important scope of the manuscript is to provide the reader with insight how these four primary community domains interact with each other to play a critical role in the healthy development not of the individual but also how groups within society can work cooperatively and interdependently in creating a healthier and more sustainable community.

Currently our society is experiencing unprecedented conflict and violence from many different types of situations and causes. As our society is becoming increasingly more diverse, it has become more apparent that we need to rely on more environmentally sustainable mechanisms and cooperative behaviors to help address and reverse this trend. Political extremism, ethnocentric ideology and recent authoritarian leadership has resulted in an increasingly divided and polarized community. This book attempts to address the problems of violence and extremism through our evolutionary history in the need for all groups of individuals to work cooperatively and contribute to a healthier and more productive community where all individuals are afforded opportunities to share their skills in a more holistic, organic and collaborative process, what Ervin Staub (2013) refers to as the “constructive social process.” This book examines how natural and ecologically sustainable (i.e., “green space”) environments can help to promote more cooperative and prosocial behaviors within our communities and address the serious problems involving violence and ethnocentric ideologies.

Recent political and administrative policies have created a very tense environment among cities within the US, especially within communities that have larger populations of immigrant refugees and persons of varied ethnicities. This book aims to ameliorate some of that tension.
