Der gebürtige Oberfranke Johann Georg August Wirth (1798–1848) trat 1832 als Organisator und Hauptredner beim Hambacher Fest ins Rampenlicht der Geschichte. Durch seine Reden und Schriften forderte der unerschrockene Publizist sogar den bayerischen König Ludwig I. und den mächtigen österreichischen Staatskanzler Metternich heraus – wofür er einen hohen Preis zahlte. Von seinen Anhängern und Verehrern als "Vorkämpfer für Einheit, Recht und Freiheit" gefeiert, umweht ihn heute der Mythos eines Mitbegründers des freiheitlich-demokratischen Deutschland.Auf diesen Sockel möchte ihn der Autor nicht stellen.
