Intralingual Translation: Beyond language and text offers an innovative, wide-ranging exploration of translation within the same language, bringing together leading international scholars from diverse linguistic and disciplinary backgrounds. Spanning theoretical reflections, empirical studies, and historical analyses, the volume addresses the rich spectrum of intralingual practices, from plain language and accessibility adaptations to diachronic rewritings of historical texts. The first section investigates various aspects of the "e;Intralingual Sphere"e; and its connections to other modes of translation. The second part explores the rapidly developing field of accessibility and simplification, including Easy Language, plain language, and graded readers. The book concludes with in-depth studies of diachronic translation across different historical layers of the French, Italian and Latin languages. Originating in an international workshop, these contributions highlight intralingual translation as a multi-faceted and socially situated activity, offering new insights into its theoretical boundaries, practical challenges, and cultural significance.

Les unites linguistiques ayant pour fonction (paradoxale) de signifier une relation entre d'autres unites de discours, suscitent, depuis l'Antiquite, un interet toujours renouvele. Defi pour le grammairien, dont ils subvertissent les parties du discours ces mots-outils que l'on peut prendre pour des mots vides obligent le linguiste a interroger les rapports entre syntaxe et semantique, logique et linguistique, systeme et discours, signe et implicite. Les onze etudes reunies dans ce livre s'attachent a decrire les processus de fonctionnement de morphemes appartenant a des langues diverses (allemand, francais, italien, latin, vietnamien), qui marquent une relation de liaison ou d'integration. Ces etudes de cas detaillees, menees selon differents cadres theoriques (typologie, cognitivisme, psycho-mecanique, grammaire fractale, linguistique de l'enonciation, argumentation dans la langue, linguistique textuelle), du point de vue synchronique ou diachronique, mettent en valeur le caractere premier de la variation dans les systemes linguistiques. Un chapitre introductif pose les reperes terminologiques, historiques et theoriques pour l'etude de categories de signes linguistiques - prepositions, conjonctions, connecteurs -, marques par la transcategorialite et la polyfonctionalite.

The contributors of this book aim to present a broad spectrum of different theoretical approaches in French linguistics. Despite the apparent heterogeneity in the field, a deeper unity in the varous topics emerges demonstrating that French linguistics today is more and more characterized as a consistent framework for common research. This book gives credence to the claim that French linguistics stands at a crossroads where subdomains meet and feed one another.
