Vom Fall Bernie Madoff über Fälschungsskandale in der Kunstszene bis hin zu den zahlreichen im Internet aufgedeckten wissenschaftlichen Plagiatsfällen wird jede neue Schwindelei als Beleg dafür zitiert, dass die Hochstapelei in der Mitte der Gesellschaft angekommen ist. Das zur Regel gewordene Aufhübschen des eigenen Profils in sozialen Netzwerken und das Beschönigen des Lebenslaufs gelten gleichsam als Symptome für den Zeitgeist.Der These von der Omnipräsenz der Hochstapelei in der Gegenwartskultur gründlich auf den Zahn zu fühlen, ist das Anliegen des vorliegenden Bandes. Über Hochstapelei versammelt die Erträge einer im Juni 2013 an der TU Dresden veranstalteten interdisziplinären wissenschaftlichen Nachwuchstagung. In drei thematischen Blöcken erschließt der Sammelband die Topographie der Hochstapelei als kulturelle Praxis, die sich durch alle gesellschaftlichen Bereiche und quer durch die Epochen verfolgen lässt. Einblicke in aktuelle Forschungsprojekte werden dabei durch kulturjournalistische Beiträge sowie künstlerische Vorstöße ergänzt.
