Anthropology of Violence has only recently developed into a field of research in its own right and as such it is still fairly fragmented. Anthropology of Violence and Conflict seeks to redress this fragmentation and develop a method of cross-cultural analysis. The study of important conflicts, such as wars in Sarajevo, Albania and Sri Lanka as well as numerous less publicised conflicts, all aim to create a theory of violence as cross-culturally applicable as possible. Most importantly this volume uses the anthropology of violence as a tool to help in the possible prevention of violence and conflict in the world today.

Über Gesundheit zu reden funktioniert auf Fachkongressen und im Wartezimmer genauso gut wie auf Partys und Parteitagen. Interessant an all diesen verschiedenen Gesundheitserzählungen sind folgende Fragen: Worüber wird geredet? Wer redet viel und wer wenig? Warum und mit welcher Wirkung wird geredet? Die Erzählforschung untersucht die Funktionsweisen von alltäglichen und wissenschaftlichen Erzählungen und ihre Potenziale, die Wirklichkeit nicht nur zu beschreiben und zu erklären, sondern auch zu beeinflussen. Das Thema Gesundheit unter Erzählperspektive zu beleuchten ist gewinnbringend, denn während die fachlichen Inhalte des Gesundheitsnarrativs sehr weitreichend erkundet werden, sind seine begleitenden erzählerischen Elemente kaum beforscht, obwohl sie z.B. Aufschluss darüber geben können, warum der Waschbrettbauch den Wohlstandsbauch als sichtbares Zeichen von erfolgreicher Lebensführung ablösen konnte und wie das Erzählen diese Wirklichkeitstransformation begleitet hat. Beim faktual-fiktionalen Gesundheitsnarrativ geht es also nicht um die Wahrheit und nichts als die Wahrheit, sondern erzählt wird eine spannende Geschichte über Wohlsein und Wehklagen, tugendhafte und sündige Lebensweisen, fitte Gewinner und matte Verlierer.
