This book provides a synoptic view of the Indian Ocean and maritime security in its contested waters. Using a historical approach, it reveals vital links to events in the present day. The volume: Highlights the competition between major Asian powers to control the ‘String of Pearls’ — a reference to the Chinese attempts at controlling the Indian Ocean periphery. Shows that cooperation amongst the major powers of the region could abate the threat of the potential of conflict becoming global and inviting external intervention. Discusses India’s Look-East policy and the deepening relation between India and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). Argues for the need of Indian Ocean states and particularly the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) members of the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA) to look afresh at their political and security issues and common interests. Suggests measures for evolving a robust mechanism of maintaining the Indian Ocean as a sustainable zone of commerce, energy, security and peace rather than threat. A major contribution on a critical area in Asian geopolitics, this volume will be useful to scholars and researchers of international relations, politics, defence studies and maritime security studies, along with strategic affairs experts and think tanks.

This volume presents the proceedings of the first International Olympic Research Conference held in India, organized by the Bharat Centre of Olympic Research and Education (BCORE) at Rashtriya Raksha University, Gujarat, from January 27-30, 2025. The conference brought together international and national scholars, researchers, Olympians, and practitioners to advance Olympic scholarship and address contemporary challenges facing the Olympic movement. This inaugural edition represents a deliberate effort to stimulate scholarly work and research that extends beyond athletic performance, focusing instead on the broader ecosystem of stakeholders, infrastructure, governance, and strategic planning essential for preparing India to host future mega sporting events, particularly the proposed 2036 Olympic Games. The book encompasses research across four thematic areas that define current Olympic discourse. The first theme examines Olympic host city selection, legacy planning, and urban transformation, with case studies on how cities leverage mega sporting events for sustainable development. The second theme explores economic strategies and technological innovation, presenting financial models, digital infrastructure requirements, and smart venue management approaches. The third theme addresses sustainability and environmental responsibility through green infrastructure designs, climate mitigation strategies, and practical applications of Olympic Agenda 2020+5. The fourth theme investigates governance, equity, and inclusion, offering frameworks for ethical administration, gender parity, and accessible sports programs. This strategic initiative strengthens India's position in the global Olympic movement through academic excellence and cross-cultural dialogue, making it distinctly valuable for both established researchers and early-career scholars interested in Olympic studies, particularly as India aspires to host mega sporting events and the Olympics in 2036.

National Security of India and International Law is a pioneering inter-disciplinary scholarly exercise in the context of India. It offers first-of-its kind perspective on interplay between the needs, concerns and interests of the national security actors, means and institutions and inherent limitations and prospects of international law to achieve the national security objectives of India. The work analyses traditional and contemporary issues and challenges – water, natural resources, refugee management, use of force, nuclear doctrine, space developments, defense procurement and manufacturing and private players, among others. It aims to generate inter-disciplinary debate, teaching and research in this emerging field of national security.
