'Lonesome Monsters' is a collection of prose and poetry from Vancouver writer Bud Osborn. Mr. Osborn's writing is as much chronicle, confession, testimony, as it is poetry-an unwavering account of inner-city struggle and the tenacity of the human spirit. "Speaking of jarring but effective writing, Bud Osborn's 'Lonesome Monsters' successfully dramatizes the harsher side of urban life." - Geist Magazine

'Signs of the Times' reunites the poetry of Bud Osborn and the woodprints of Vancouver printmaker and painter Richard Tetrault. As with their first collaboration, 'Oppenheimer Park', 'Signs of the Times' is both an unflinching look at Vancouver's Downtown Eastside and a beautiful object in its own right. "The linocut and woodcut prints that constitute half of the art of this volume are exquisite their elegance....This volume is the best value for your money you coulod ever hope as lovers of art, as lovers of people. It puts art into your sweaty hands; it forces you to engage in the politics of humanity" - Prairie Fire

This book tells a story about community activism in Vancouver’s Downtown East Side (DTES) that culmi-nated in a social justice movement to open the first official safe injection site. This story is unique: it is told from the point of view of drug users – those most affected by drug policy, political decisions and policing. It provides a montage of poetry, photos, early Vancouver Area Network of Drug Users (VANDU) meetings, journal entries from the Back Alley, the “unofficial” safe injection site, and excerpts from significant health and media reports. The harms of prohibition, and resistance, hope, kindness, awakening and collective action are chronicled in these pages.raise shitwe have become a community of prophets in the downtown eastsiderebuking the systemand speaking hope and possibility into situations of apparent impossibilityto raise shit is to actively resistand we resist with our presencewith our wordswith our love with our courageby Bud Osborn
