The anthology comprising twenty two papers is an attempt to study the select representative writers and some canonical works from different perspectives like narrative, stylistic, ecocritical and thematic. The areas chosen are fiction particularly novel, poetry and autobiography. The fiction writers included in it are R.K.Narayan, Mulk Raj Anand, V.S.Naipaul, Anita Desai, Ruskin Bond and Saadat Hasan Manto. These synoptic studies are focused with a definite critical lens, for example Lacanian theory is applied to R.K.Narayan's novels and psycho narration is used for the study of Anita Desai's novels. Nine novels are taken up for in-depth evaluation; they are The White Tiger, The Inheritance of Loss, Interpreter of Maladies, A Beach Boy, The Foreigner, The Sun Behind the Cloud" Midnight's Children, The Girmitiya Saga and Azadi . In Autobiography Leila Seth's On Balance which is least explored is taken up for comprehensive assessment. In poetry Aurobindo, Tagore and Sarojini Naidu the Romantic trio with three different focal areas of interest are evaluated separately. Besides them Kamala Das and Agha Shahid Ali are comparatively studied to show how radical they are in their poetry. Two papers are on Jayant Mahapatra-one on Relationship and another on A Rain of Rites and one paper is devoted to the study R. Parthasarthy's Rough Passage. On the whole it gives space to emerging novelists besides revisiting the established writers. And it is hoped that it would prove useful for the students, readers and researchers of Indian English literature.

The present anthology comprises twenty two research papers on different American fiction, poetry and plays. It includes one paper on Black literature and one on Afro-American literature. The major share goes to novel being the most dominant form of literature. However, it includes three papers on poetry of Robert Frost, Wallace Stevens and E.E. Cummings. They represent the two different currents of poetry in America which have yielded significant influence on Indian poetry in English. It comprises four papers on dramatist/ drama namely Arthur Miller, Lorraine Hansberry's A Raisin in the Sun and Willy Loman's Death of a Salesman. Tennessee Williams it also includes three papers on short story. The short stories of W.S. Porter, Roald Dahi and Hemingway are perceptively studied here. The synoptic papers on American novels in the twenties, Black English, Afro-American literature and comprehensive studies of individual novelists like Hemingway, Ralph Ellison, Toni Morrison and Sherwood Anderson besides other papers on novels make it a useful reference book. The novels studied here are A Farewell to Arms, The Bluest Eye, Gone with the Wind, The Good Earth and The Possessing the Secret of Joy. The twenty two critical essays are remarkable contribution to American Literature in the sense. that they present critical responses from a distance of time, place and milieu. I hope the book would be useful for students and researchers of American Literature as well as for general readers.

Indian English poetry, which after independence breathed the air of freedom with an identity of its own, is rich in conception and execution. The charge that mere rubbish is being dished out in the name of Indian English poetry is not true. The poets who are rich in content as well as form remain in the field. The present anthology that includes twenty five articles and research papers attempts to evaluate the marginalized poets besides the established ones. Some poets that are discussed in the anthology are Derozio, Toru Dutt, Aurobindo, Tagore, Sarojini Naidu, Dom Moraes, Nissim Ezekiel, Ramanujan, Kamala Das, jayanta Mahapatra, Shiv K. Kumar, Daruwalla, O.P. Bhatnagar, Sujata Bhatt, Niranjan Mohanty, Bibhu Padhi, D.C. Chambial, R.K. Singh, I.K. Sharma, I.H. Rizvi and R.C. Shukla. Besides these poetic colums of Indian English Poetry, some general papers that focus on the survey of Indian English poetry, poetry of women empowerment and Marxist idiom in Contemporary Indian English Poetry have been included to make the anthology interesting and thought-provoking not only for the teachers, scholars and researchers but also for the general readers who will certainly discover several unexplored aspects of the Indian English poetry.
