The general theme of Volume 24 is the impact of, and reaction to, the spread of market systems and market liberalization by local communities. Part I examines cases in which migration has opened new market and entrepreneurial opportunities to local populations. Part II contains cases that describe ethnographically the impacts the oil industry market has had on towns of Louisiana's Gulf coast. The essays of Part III concern themselves with community repercussions that recent neoliberal market policies have had, while Part IV contains papers that analyse the process in which values of products and services are defined economically, culturally and politically in the context of developing markets and commoditization. This book focuses on market systems and market liberalization in local communities. Specific topics addressed include the oil industry and the gulf coast, negotiating values in the market, and many more. The international case examples provide a global perspective.

Ce volume réunit les cinq communications présentées dans le cadre des sixièmes «Conférences d'études iraniennes Ehsan et Latifeh Yarshater», organisées en 2012 par l'Unité Mixte de Recherche 7528 «Mondes iranien et indien» au Collége de France à Paris. Il est consacré à l'analyse des aspects culturels et sociaux - ainsi que religieux, économiques, politiques et matériels - des fondations pieuses en Iran du 14e siècle à nos jours. Les cinq chapitres essaient de couvrir des époques variées et sont classés dans un ordre chronologique à travers leurs thèmes centrales: L'institution du vaqf à l'époque pré-moderne et contemporaine; Mouvements mystiques et fondations pieuses en Azerbaïdjan aux 14e et 15e siècles; Machhad et ses fondations d'illumination; Robes d'honneur conférées par l'Imam Reza; ainsi que Mécénat, instruction publique et nationalisme dans fondations vaqf à l'époque Pahlavi. This volume contains the text of the five Ehsan and Latifeh Yarshater Distinguished Lectures on Iranian Studies, organized by the Unité Mixte de Recherche 7528 "Mondes iranien et indien", and delivered in 2012 at the Collège de France in Paris. It analyses cultural and social - as well as religious, economic, political and material aspects of endowments in Iran from the 14th century up to the present time. The five chapters cover various periods and are arranged chronologically along major themes: The institution of vaqf in early modern and contemporary Iran; Mystical movements and religious endowments in fourteenth and fifteenth century Azerbaijan; Mashhad and its illumination vaqfs; Robes of honour conferred by Imam Reza; and Philanthropy, public education and nationalism in vaqf foundations of the Pahlavi period.
