He then enjoyed a phenomenal 17 consecutive Top 40 singles, womanising and LSD, and fell under the spell of a mystic before joining forces with Rod Stewart. Ronnie was later diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, moved to America, went broke and died far too young.Drawing on extensive research and interviews with friends and family, Caroline and David Stafford unearth the truth and talent of the man behind the music.

All 16 episodes of the BBC radio comedy about the dysfunctional Burbage siblingsBrothers Nigel and Michael share everything - home, work and acute neuroses. Several years ago, they gave up respectable careers to set up a website design company in Nigel''s living room. That was their first mistake...They rapidly discover that no-one can disturb, pester and annoy like a sibling can - except, perhaps, for their eccentric friends Zorro and Oonagh, whose constant interruptions and distractions lead them into some increasingly odd situations. Liquidised orchids, tropical fish, John Travolta''s cufflinks and revolving bow ties are soon part of their daily routine as, beset by professional problems and private consternation, the beleagured brothers find their lives becoming increasingly surreal. The arrival of their feckless father, Peter, sparks further havoc for the duo, and worries about absent wives and all-too-present fiancées only add to the pressure. Can the brothers fix their strained filial relationship, or will they only find happiness by going their separate ways?Written by Caroline and David Stafford, whose credits include Hazelbeach and the ''Birkett'' legal dramas, this engaging comedy drama stars Adam Godley (The Umbrella Academy) as Nigel, Raymond Coulthard (Hotel Babylon) as Michael, Pauline McLynn (Father Ted) as Oonagh and Pearce Quigley and Alex Lowe as Zorro.Written by Caroline and David StaffordProduced and directed by Marc BeebyCastNigel - Adam GodleyMichael - Raymond CoulthardOonagh - Pauline McLynnZorro - Pearce Quigley/Alex LoweSally/Korean daughter - Alice HartKorean dad - Jon GloverUnsuitable man - Harry MyersPeter - James FleetHelen - Sophie RobertsTrapper - Sam DaleFirst broadcast BBC Radio 4, 19 May-9 June 2004 (Series 1), 28 September-2 November 2005 (Series 2), 19 February-26 March 2007 (Series 3)© 2021 BBC Studios Distribution Ltd(p) 2021 BBC Studios Distribution Ltd

“There’s only ever been two English rock’n’roll singers, Johnny Rotten and Billy Fury.” – Ian DuryIf he’d merely stood like a statue on stage, he would have flooded theatres with hormonal longings, but he was incapable of standing still. He pulsed. He writhed. He invalidated the manufacturer’s guarantee on microphone stands. He provoked shock and awe. From Billy’s troubled childhood in Liverpool, via gold and silver lamé, to his later years as a farming ornithologist and a comeback cut short by his premature death, David and Caroline Stafford’s sparkling biography brings to life this captivating performer. Billy knew everybody, auditioned The Beatles to be his backing band, met and out-handsomed Elvis, partied with Keith Moon and hosted acid parties. Yet, throughout the mayhem, he always remained true to himself: diffident and amused.Halfway to Paradise tells the full story with the compassion and affection due to an artist who, decades after his death, still commands admiration and adoration: the life, the times, the fans, the Fury.

An American drummer, a bass player from Newcastle and a guitarist a decade older than the other two, with little in common other than their musical brilliance and towering ambition, formed one of the most successful bands in history.Covering the years 1977-1986 and the brief reincarnation in 2007-2008, acclaimed biographers Caroline and David Stafford chronicle the rise and fall of the Police. Much like Reservoir Dogs but without the light relief, it's a tale of jealousy, anger and attrition both on the road and in the studio. And yet, despite - or perhaps because of - the battles, these three musicians, Sting, Andy and Stewart, each supremely talented in his own right, together achieved a symbiosis that produced music of soaring magnificence.

There has never been anyone quite like Randy Newman, a truly unique and distinctive voice in popular, film and TV music. Maybe I'm Doing It Wrong - The Life And Music Of Randy Newman is a biography that presents an ideal introduction to the singer-songwriter while also celebrating a wonderful body of work for established fans. Written by David and Caroline Stafford, this authoritative and comprehensive biography of the great Randy Newman boasts a rich exploration of his life and music, along with notes on some of the more unlikely topics and characters found in his inimitable songs. Newman is perhaps best known for his film and television themes, including his seven scores for Disney-Pixar, including his incomparable theme for Toy Story. Having written catchy pop songs that have been covered by artists like Cilla Black, Dusty Springfield, Tom Jones and Joe Cocker, it is his own albums, however, that introduced the world to his style - at once ironic and romantic, humorous and celebratory. This biography uses in-depth research, interviews and two excellent photography sections to tell the story of Randy Newman, one of the world's most admired songwriters.

"There's only ever been two English rock 'n' roll singers," Ian Dury said, "Johnny Rotten and Billy Fury." Butter adverts have tainted Johnny's status, but Billy's combination of beauty, sex, innocence, talent, charisma and vulnerability has never been matched. The Sound of Fury, his first L.P., is still widely revered as the best British rock'n'roll record ever made. When he first appeared on TV, a generation of teenagers found true love, and his post-rock'n'roll heartbreak ballads were the essential soundtrack to adolescent angst. In 1973, he was brought out of semi-retirement to play Stormy Tempest - to some extent a parody of himself - in the movie That'll Be The Day. The magic rose above the parody. He never knew how not to be magnificent. David and Caroline Stafford guide the reader through Billy's troubled childhood in Liverpool, via gold and silver lame, to his later years as a farming ornithologist, and his comeback cut short by his premature death. Billy Fury was a key figure on that watershed between post-war privations and sixties excess. He knew everybody, auditioned the Beatles to be his backing band, met and outhandsomed Elvis, partied with Keith Moon and hosted acid parties. Yet, throughout the mayhem, he always remained true to himself- diffident and amused.Halfway To Paradise tells the full story with the compassion and affection due to an artist who, decades after his death, still has the power to command admiration and adoration.
