Filled with personal insight, humor, creativity, joy, and poignancy, Home: A Celebration is a lyrical ode to sanctuary and a thoughtful and inspirational book to peruse again and again. Through the lenses of their crafts and passions, each illustrious contributor presents an offering either a personal text or work of art on what home means to them. Historian Jon Meacham discusses books as the emotional infrastructure of the houses in his life. Photographer Oberto Gili documents the glorious garden at his property in northwest Italy. Chef Alice Waters proffers a recipe from her home garden. Interior designers including Nina Campbell, Steven Gambrel, and Kelly Wearstler share aspects of their profession that define home to them. Other notable pieces are from Joan Juliet Buck, Julian Fellowes, John Grisham, Jill Kargman, Joyce Carol Oates, and Gloria Steinem. Charlotte Moss s inspiration for this project is Edith Wharton s The Book of the Homeless (1916), a fundraising effort that aided refugees and children during the First World War. For this book, a portion of the profits are benefiting the organization No Kid Hungry, which works to feed more than 11 million children in the United States who live in food-insecure homes.

Thomas Jefferson (1743 1826), third president of the United States, designed his Virginia residence with innovations that were progressive, even unprecedented, in the new world. Six acclaimed arts and cultural luminaries pay homage to Jefferson, citing his work at Monticello as testament to his genius in art, culture, and science, from his adaptation of Palladian architecture, his sweeping vision for landscape design, his experimental gardens, and his passion for French wine and cuisine to his eclectic mix of European and American art and artifacts and the creation of the country s seminal library. Each writer considers the important role, and the painful reality, of Jefferson s enslaved workforce, which made his lifestyle and plantation possible. This book, illustrated with superb photography by Miguel Flores-Vianna, is a necessary addition to the libraries of those who love historical architecture and landscape design, art and cultural history, and the lives of prominent Americans.

Charlotte Moss inspires readers to imbue everyday life with elegance and romance. Moss focuses on events as small as breakfast in bed or tea in the afternoon or as elaborate as a festive Christmas luncheon or large dinner party and the artifacts of our lives (china, silver, linen) to create the backdrop for a life well lived. Moss celebrates the day-to-day by bringing her enthusiasm and impeccable style to every domestic activity. Setting the table becomes a joy when putting together stylish combinations of place mats, monogrammed linens, china, tableware, curios, and flowers. From tasteful meals for one to grand occasions for friends and family, Moss chronicles her own aptitude for hospitality. Style icons are conjured for their entertaining savvy: Pauline de Rothschild for her pioneering tabletop decoration, Marjorie Merriweather Post for her organizational precision, Lesley Blanch for her introduction of exotic delights to the table, and Elsie de Wolfe for her always-right recipes. Butlers pantries are explored. Linen closets are catalogued. Flowers are collected from the garden and artfully arranged for a memorable meal. Moss invites you into her world to discover how to make everyday an occasion.

The debut book from award-winning Southern architect Stan Dixon, one of a highly influential group of Atlanta-based architects and designers who are revolutionizing the design world with their work. Stan Dixon s edited approach to the classical elements of architecture creates an understated aesthetic that is historically based while embracing influences of modern design. Through contextually sensitive work of appropriate style, scale, and proportion, he crafts buildings of permanence and delight, while providing their occupants with a beautiful place in which to live their lives. Dixon takes risks in blending genres and styles, with results that are creative and original. In his first book, Dixon shares thirteen projects that vary geographically and stylistically from a whimsical coastal retreat on Jupiter Island to an elegant English-manor-inspired dwelling on the coast of South Carolina. Each house explores a different component of his aesthetic, instructing the reader in the nature of authentic architecture while simultaneously delighting them with moments large and small a shadow of garden gate, a striking stairwell, a tiered veranda. Photographed entirely by Eric Piasecki, featuring the work of Suzanne Kasler, Jackye Lanham, Carolyn Malone, Beth Webb, Tammy Connor, and other talented designers, HOME: The Residential Architecture of D. The houses of Mellon and her husband Paul have become icons in the field of interior decoration, filled with fine antiques, blue-chip works of art (with an occasional Van Gogh, Cezanne, or Degas left unframed and propped on a mantel or against the back of a chair), comfortably upholstered furniture, and collections of dishes and bibelots all displayed in Mellon s inimitably sophisticated and charming way. Campbell was employed by Mellon in 1970 for six years, after her college graduation, to document in paint several Mellon residences presented here as a group for the first time. This book the culmination of an unfinished project that Mellon was organizing in her later years presents Campbell s paintings capturing the colors, light, and ambiance of rooms and gardens, as well as intricate patterns and details of furnishings in rooms arranged with help from renowned decorators John Fowler and Bruce Budd. Three residences in New York City, Washington, DC, and Upperville, Virginia are the focus, with texts by society chronicler James Reginato describing Mellon s decorating style and how she used each property for escape or as a backdrop for her and her husband s hospitality. Opening the doors to a life of superb taste and connoisseurship, this volume is an homage to the outstanding interiors of a renowned couple and the extraordinary work of a young artist.
