No other company can say that its watches have been worn on the moon, at the deepest point of the oceans and by James Bond, as well as being used to time almost every Olympic Games since 1932. Founded in 1848, Omega has almost 180 years of continuous operation to its name, and is one of the best-known and most historically important watch brands in the world. It has consistently pursued technological innovation, from the first minute-repeater wristwatch in 1892 to the industrialisation of the co-axial escapement, a major breakthrough in mechanical timekeeping in 1999. It remains the official supplier of watches to every NASA mission, and has produced some of the most recognisable - and radical - designs in watch history. Omega Watch by Watch is the most comprehensive overview of the incredible stories behind Omega's output. With more than 125 standout watches featured, including the Speedmasters that went to the moon, it highlights the diversity and ability of the Seamaster range, the beauty and accuracy of the Constellation and the fundamental importance of military timekeeping, as well as several forgotten gems from the brand's archives. Insightful commentary from industry expert Chris Hall accompanies specially photographed images that show these rare, valuable and interesting timepieces in wonderful detail. Presented in a luxury design and slipcase, this is the perfect book for anyone interested in watches, their design and their impact on the wider world.

Ninety years ago, a Civil War broke out in a then little-known country. For thousands of British, Irish and Commonwealth people, the Spanish Civil War was their main focus for three years.Over 2,500 “British” (including Irish and Commonwealth) men and women fought in the International Brigades or served in the medical services of the Spanish Republic. Over 500 volunteers were to die in Spain.Other “British” volunteers served as mercenary pilots and in the revolutionary militias (including George Orwell); some even served on the side of the rebel forces. At home, thousands participated in ‘Spanish Aid’ activities, raising funds for food ships and medical supplies for Republican Spain. During the Civil War, 4000 Basque refugee children were supported by public donations. Picasso’s Guernica painting toured England to raise funds. This is the story of ordinary men and women, told in their own words and reflecting the whole gamut of emotions from ecstasy to despair. Many volunteers would go on to fight in the Second World War and some became leading figures in post-War Britain. But for many volunteers, the Spanish Civil War was the “Passionate Cause” and the outstanding episode of their lives. This is their story.

How to be successful in 2020 is a self help leadership book for professional or personal use. If you work with others in any capacity whether personal or professional, you are capable of exerting leadership. The book is loaded with thought provoking ideas and strategies about leadership in a seemingly busy and chaotic world in the only way that brings out the best out in everyone. 2015 offers a paradigm shift to the conventional view of leadership as "being out front."

The life story of the working-class woman from Manchester, England, who volunteered to fight Fascism and Nazism in two major wars. Madge Addy left her job and her husband to serve in the Spanish Civil War as a nurse with the Republican medical services. In Spain, she was wounded in a bombing raid, fell in love with another foreign volunteer who became her second husband, was made a prisoner of war, and was the last British nurse to leave Spain, witnessing the horrors of Franco''s Fascist regime before she left. She was caught up in the "Fall of France," and lived in Marseille with her Norwegian husband. From 1940 to 1944 Addy was first an amateur resister and later a full-time secret agent, working with the likes of Ian Garrow, Pat O''Leary, and Guido Zembsch-Schreve. She also acted as a courier, flying to Lisbon to deliver and receive secret messages from British intelligence. In addition, she became romantically involved with a Danish secret agent and married him after the war. Ultimately she was recognized by the British with the award of an OBE and by the French with the award of the Croix de Guerre. Chris Hall brings Addy''s story to life in this biography, using archive material and photographs from Britain, France, Spain, and Norway. Her Spanish Civil War experiences are vividly described in a mass of letters she wrote requesting medical aid and describing the harrowing conditions at her wartime hospital. Her activities in the Second World War show a woman with nerves of steel and a bravery at times bordering on recklessness. As she herself said, "I believe in taking the war into the enemy camp."

This innovative book explores social work, therapy and counselling as a series of encounters - between clients and human services professionals, social workers, their colleagues and other professionals, and more widely between citizens and the state. Providing a variety of social constructionist perspectives on the idea of the 'client', it presents in-depth discussion of the roles, language and contexts of meetings between social workers and their clients.International contributors present discussion on categorization, analysing identities and reflexive practice. Drawing data from a variety of sources, including meetings, client files and transcribed dialogues with clients, the book employs methods such as conversation and discourse analysis to propose new insights into what it means to be a client of the human services agency.Bringing together a rich variety of data, this volume forms an important contribution to major debates on the nature of social work and counselling. As well as innovative approaches to theory and research, the implications for practice in social work and counselling are discussed. Challenging previously-held notions about clienthood, this book is a useful and thought-provoking resource for social workers, counsellors, policy makers, academics, researchers and students and trainers in social work and counselling.

This collection, arriving in the wake of the 25th anniversary of 1998’s Metal Gear Solid, provides scholars and fans alike with a wide-ranging selection of critical essays on the franchise from diverse disciplinary and thematic perspectives. With the conclusion of Hideo Kojima’s Metal Gear Solid video game series only recently behind us, it is now both possible and essential to study this critically, commercially, and culturally resonant series as a whole. The essays contained in this volume, which are all new contributions from both established and emerging scholars, take up this crucial opportunity to consider and reconsider the cultural, historical, political, philosophical, and aesthetic impact of the Metal Gear Solid games in analyses spanning the series’ canonical entries, adding to the understanding of both well-studied installments and under- examined ones. These contributions connect themes that emerge from the games—such as sexuality and queerness, rhetoric and ethics, and subjectivity and embodiment—while also demonstrating how the series opens up broader questions about ecology, race, gender, militarization, pedagogy, and game design, that demand continued analysis and application. Each essay develops new avenues for theoretical, rhetorical, and political exploration of the Metal Gear Solid series, for Game Studies, and for the study of Popular Culture writ large. As the first collection of critical inquiries into the Metal Gear Solid series, this volume serves as crucial exegesis of and critical companion to any future study of the series by celebrating, critiquing, and critically interrogating its entries’ rich cultural and disciplinary import.
