Die wissenschaftliche Erforschung der deutschen Dialekte kann auf eine lange Tradition zuruckblicken, die sich etwa in linguistischen Dialekteinteilungen niederschlagt. Was aber wissen die Sprachbenutzer selbst uber die Sprachraume des Deutschen und ihre Grenzen? Und welche Bedeutung hat dieses Wissen fur die Struktur und Dynamik der Dialekte? In diesem E-Book wird die Variationslinguistik um die Perspektive der Sprachbenutzer selbst erweitert. Am Beispiel mitteldeutscher Varietaten untersucht der Autor, wie individuelle Sprachraumkonzepte semantisch strukturiert sind und auf welche Typen von Erfahrungsinhalten sie verweisen. Die Untersuchung linguistischer Ubergangsraume zeigt zudem, dass das Wissen der Sprecher in direktem Zusammenhang mit der sprachlichen Dynamik steht: Stabile Grenzen lassen sich nur zwischen solchen Sprachraumen nachweisen, die sowohl hinsichtlich ihrer linguistischen Struktur als auch in der Wahrnehmung und Bewertung der Horer distinkt sind.Eingebettet werden die Ergebnisse in eine psychologisch fundierte Theorie des Horerurteils, die auer der perzeptiven Auffalligkeit sprachlicher Phanomene (Salienz) auch die Bedeutung dieser Phanomene fur das individuelle Sprachwissen und -handeln (Pertinenz) reflektiert.
