Explainable AI for Communications and Networking: Toward Responsible Automation gives a tour into the realm of Explainable Artificial Intelligence (XAI) and its impact on transparent and autonomous communication networks. The book equips readers from diverse backgrounds in communications and networking with a variety of XAI tools, metrics and frameworks to demystify AI systems through graphical taxonomies and mathematical formulations, which are further enriched with code snippets. The book also examines XAI implementation in wireless communications, network management, generative AI for telecom and cybersecurity, before presenting practical use-cases emanating from an industry perspective. Finally, the regulatory, ethical, and legal implications of XAI in telecommunications are reviewed, before concluding with key challenges and takeaways.Includes XAI graphical taxonomies, metrics, formulations and code snippets.Provides practical examples and use-cases from a telecom industry perspective.Covers implementation guidelines (XAI libraries/implementation tools) tailored to a communications and networking context.Highlights the application of XAI in wireless communications, network management, generative AI for telecom and cybersecurity.Presents a thorough synthesis of the regulatory and ethical implications of XAI worldwide.

This book provides a comprehensive view of green communications considering all areas of ICT including wireless and wired networks.  It analyses particular concepts and practices, addressing holistic approaches in future networks considering a system perspective.  It makes full use of tables, illustrations, performance graphs, case studies and  examples making it accessible for a wide audience.

This book tackles the 6G odyssey, providing a concerted technology roadmap towards the 6G vision focused on the interoperability between the wireless and optical domain, including the benefits that are introduced through virtualization and software defined radio. The authors aim to be at the forefront of beyond 5G technologies by reflecting the integrated works of several major European collaborative projects (H2020-ETN-SECRET, 5GSTEPFWD, and SPOTLIGHT). The book is structured so as to provide insights towards the 6G horizon, reporting on the most recent developments on the international 6G research effort. The authors address a variety of telecom stakeholders, which includes practicing engineers on the field developing commercial solutions for 5G and beyond products; postgraduate researchers that require a basis on which to build their research by highlighting the current challenges on radio, optical and cloud-based networking for ultra-dense networks, including novel approaches; and project managers that could use the principles and applications for shaping new research proposals on this highly dynamic field.

Following the success of the First MOBILIGHT 2009 in Athens, Greece, the Second International Conference on Mobile Lightweight Systems (MOBILIGHT) was held in Barcelona, Spain on May 10-12, 2010. It was not an easy decision to carry on organizing a scientific event on wireless communications, where competition is really enormous. This decision was motivated by discussion with many colleagues about the current unprecedented demand for lig- weight, wireless communication devices with high usability and performance able to support added-value services in a highly mobile environment. Such devices follow the users everywhere they go (at work, at home, while travelling, in a classroom, etc. ) and result in exciting research, development and business opportunities. Such scenarios clearly demand significant upgrades to the existing communication paradigm in terms of infrastructure, devices and services to support the “anytime, anywhere, any device” philosophy, providing novel and fast-evolving requirements and expectations on - search and development in the field of information and communication technologies. The core issue is to support wireless users' desire for 24/7 network availability and transparent access to "their own" services. In this context, we continue to envision an international forum where practitioners and researchers coming from the many areas involved in lightweight wireless systems’ design and deployment would be able to interact and exchange experiences.

This book constitutes the thoroughly refereed post-conference proceedings of the 6th International ICST Conference on Mobile Multimedia Communications (MOBIMEDIA 2010) held in Lisbon, Portugal, in September 2010, which was accompanied by the First International Workshop on Cognitive Radio and Cooperative Strategies for POWER Saving (C2POWER 2010), the Workshop on Impact of Scalable Video Coding on Multimedia Provisioning (SVCVision 2010), and the First International Workshop on Energy-efficient and Reconfigurable Transceivers (EERT 2010). The 59 revised full papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from numerous submissions and are organized in topical sections on advanced techniques for video transmission; multimedia distribution; modelling of wireless systems; cellular networks; mobility concepts for IMT-advances (MOBILIA); media independent handovers (MIH-4-MEDIA); and IP-based emergency applications and services for next generation networks (PEACE).
