Historische Fiktion ist seit dem Spätsozialismus nicht nur Ressource politischer Legitimation und kultureller Selbstorientierung, sondern auch zentrales Feld der Aushandlung neuer Wissensordnungen der sowjetischen und russischen Gesellschaft. Die Arbeit bezeichnet diese Funktion mit dem Begriff der Metahistoriographie. Die untersucht auf der einen Seite die literarische Problematisierung der kunstexternen Bedingungen historischer Erkenntnisbildung und nimmt ihre sozialen, institutionellen und ideologischen Voraussetzungen in den Blick. Auf der anderen Seite fokussiert sie die kunstinternen Bedingungen historischer Erkenntnis wie die formale Strukturierung, Gattungspoetik, Erzählstruktur und Medialität historischer Fiktion. Durch einen solchen funktionspoetologischen Textzugriff wird Literatur als wesentliches Medium der Indikation und Inspiration veränderter gesellschaftlicher Ordnung im Spannungsfeld von Systemzerfall und Systembildung lesbar.

This book is the first to deal with documentary aesthetic practices of the post-war period in Eastern Europe in a comparative perspective. The contributions examine the specific forms and modes of documentary representations and the role they played in the formation of new aesthetic trends during the cultural-political transition of the long 1960s. This documentary first-hand approach to the world aimed to break up unquestioned ideological structures and expose tabooed truths in order to engender much-needed social changes.
