How can healthcare systems be transformed by reimagining their multiple silos to favor processes and practices that are more responsive to local, horizontal initiatives? Altering Frontiers analyzes numerous experiences, using a multidisciplinary approach, paying attention to certain actors, collectives and organizational arrangements.Through this work, levers are identified that promote lasting transformation: recognizing the legitimacy of the practices of many who are often "invisible"; trusting those who know their intervention territory; investing in methodological support; taking advantage of tools and procedures such as instruments for strategic and managerial discussion; and developing the capacity to absorb innovative ideas and experiences that circulate within the environment.

Using the experience of patients, users, healthcare professionals and other stakeholders to innovate and rethink healthcare organizations and systems is gaining ground. Deploying these innovative methods and practices, however, requires an understanding and mastery of theoretical principles, as well as experimenting with them in the field.Experience in Healthcare Innovation alternates between theoretical presentations and case studies/examples in order to present the key notions of innovation in healthcare and the experiences of the people at the heart of healthcare ecosystems. It brings together diverse and complementary perspectives, shedding new light on the issue of healthcare experience through the prism of innovation. It includes a wealth of resources, ideas and results for all of those in healthcare wishing to implement innovative approaches that place the human experience at the heart of healthcare ecosystems.

Promoting a more inclusive society for the elderly, people with disabilities and, more broadly, all of those in vulnerable situations, implies profound changes in the healthcare system in many countries. This movement, known as “deinstitutionalization”, implies strengthening people’s participation in the decisions and activities that concern them, whether they live in an institution, in their ordinary environment, or in respect to their habits and life projects. The aim is to achieve social participation by considering the people we support as partners in our organizations, as genuine professional and institutional players who contribute to this transformation of the healthcare system. This book brings together contributions from over 40 researchers from different countries (notably French-speaking and Canadian), as well as patients involved in research, experimentation or associations. These contributions examine the terminological and legal foundations of a more inclusive society – the different mechanisms, innovative forms of housing and ways of supporting the public and professionals in favor of inclusion – and the different models for animating territories, therefore fostering the community commitment of favoring inclusion.
