Making Psychotherapy More Effective with Unconscious Process Work is an essential text that seeks to educate readers on the astounding capabilities of unconscious intelligence to both gather information and engage in rapid cognition. By providing a comprehensive and easily understood overview of the recent research on unconscious processes, as well as clinical case material, this book provides readers with skills that will enable them to strategically engage these resources. The first part of the book discusses the research-based principles that frame this growth-oriented approach towards psychotherapy. New discoveries about the surprising limitations of conscious self-governance force readers to reconsider the overall aim of psychotherapy. The second part explores several transtheoretical techniques, focusing on prediction, reimagining, mental contrasting, and incubated cognition. Case examples and key point summaries are used throughout, with the last chapter featuring reflective exercises. This book is essential reading for practicing psychotherapists, Ericksonian therapists, graduate students, and professors of psychotherapy.

Designing Opportunity in Ericksonian Choice Architecture bridges the gap between behavioral economics and the helping professions and provides a model for guiding without controlling. This empowers clinicians to develop collaborative relationships with their clients, leading to positive and sustainable outcomes. This book establishes Ericksonian Choice Architecture (ECA) as a legitimate extension of behavioral economics, applied to the clinician–client dyad. It offers a coherent, ethically grounded framework for choice-centric care, in which the enduring outcome is not engineered change but an increased capacity for authored choice that respects client autonomy and values. By treating decisions as both psychological acts and designable events, the author demonstrates how communication can shape choices rather than correct them. Explaining how clinicians can work with biases and mental heuristics rather than against them, the book supplies evidence-based strategies to design “optimal choice environments” that make progress feel self-directed rather than imposed.Full of rich case material and thought experiments, this book is essential for Ericksonian practitioners, hypnotherapists, psychotherapists, and licensed counselors, as well as graduate students and trainees in these fields. It will also interest healthcare clinicians, leaders, and behavioral economists.

Milton H. Erickson is recognised as one of the most innovative clinicians of our time. Known as the father of modern hypnosis and the source of inspiration for many forms of family therapy and brief therapy (including the increasingly popular solution-focused therapy) Erickson's influence has reached far beyond the perimeters of any one country or culture.Much of the scientific and popular literature is beginning to focus on the themes of hope and resiliency - Erickson worked from a philosophical position that is best explained using these two concepts.Although Erickson is most commonly examined through the lens of hypnosis, this book takes a much broader approach and defines several key components that made him successful as a therapist. The fundamental strategies described are relevant to all mental health care professionals, regardless of their theoretical orientation. The book is written by leaders and experts in the field of Ericksonian therapy. The hardback edition, ISBN 9781904424932

This is an absorbing and enlightening account of Erickson's work by his family and students. It's full of stories and case histories and the underlying fundamental patterns and approaches of Erickson's approach are made both visible and accessible. Even the title points ou towards generative, deep intentions for therapeutic change. Erickson's work has been so influential in NLP and his emphasis on the deeper wisdom of the unconscious, on relationship in healing, and on experiential learning is central to our own practice. This is recommended reading for all of us - definitely a book which brings Erickson's work to life and inspires us to be creative, kind and wise.
