Die Rezeption des Paulus im ersten Jahrhundert wurde bereits vielfach diskutiert. Daniel Marguerat verteidigt den Standpunkt dreier verschiedener Rezeptionen: einer dokumentarischen, einer biographischen und einer doktoralen. Marguerat plädiert dafür, dass der Wert dieses Phänomens der Rezeption anerkannt wird, vor allem die Figur des Paulus in der Apostelgeschichte. Man sollte sie nicht systematisch mit den Schriften des Apostels vergleichen, wenngleich dieses Bild aus einer Interpretation des Lukas entstanden ist. Die Aufsätze untersuchen die literarische und theologische Konstruktion der Apostelgeschichte, wobei der Fokus auf der Figur des Paulus liegt: sein Verhältnis zur Tora, das sokratische Modell, die charakterliche Darstellung des Lukas, die Auferstehung als zentrales Thema der Apostelgeschichte, die Bedeutung der Mahlzeiten.
