Née en 1964 dans l’État de Virginie, Darcey Steinke a grandi à New York.Elle bégayait tellement qu’elle tomba amoureuse des livres, écrivant à l’âge de sept ans sa première histoire, où il était question de vampires. Elle est aujourd’hui respectée aux USA comme un auteur ayant réussi à trouver le lien entre un certain esprit punk et le mysticisme.
Darcey vit aujourd’hui à Brooklyn avec sa petite fille. Son second roman, Suicide Blonde, a été traduit dans sept langues. Elle a publié un essai sur le Nouveau Testament avec l’écrivain Rick Moody. Trois de ses romans ont été sélectionnés parmi les Livres de l’Année par le New York Times.Son dernier roman, Milk, par lequel les éditions Max Milo ont choisi de faire connaître cet auteur en France, allie un érotisme extrême à une religiosité aiguë. Le livre a été chaudement accueilli par la presse américaine, notamment le New Yorker, Time Out, le Village Voice, et le New York Times Book Review.
