El presente libro surge con el propósito de comprender y cuestionar las creencias preestablecidas sobre las drogas. En este, se plasman algunas de las ideas y los cuestionamientos que se generaron en los espacios de reflexión descritos antes. Además, se presentan diversos puntos de vista, posturas y experiencias que permitirán al lector ampliar sus concepciones sobre un fenómeno tan complejo de entender como de abordar.Se presenta una crítica a los modelos tradicionales de tratamiento en los que están inmersas las personas consumidoras de drogas ilícitas y/o con otras dificultades de salud mental, debido a los estigmas y la discriminación con los que se manejan. Se manifiesta que se usa la culpa como eje central del tratamiento. Frente a esto, se proponen nuevas intervenciones que sean respetuosas e interesadas con el proceso individual y que estén basadas en las buenas prácticas. Además, se sugiere un sistema sanitario más cercano e inclusivo. Esta propuesta enfatiza en las medidas que se pueden implementar frente a los delitos relacionados con drogas, mismos que mayoritariamente se relacionan con situaciones no violentas y son provocados por personas que se encuentran en situaciones de extrema vulnerabilidad, como es el caso del alto número de mujeres desempleadas, cabezas de familia, que se encuentran privadas de la libertad por este tipo de delitos. Se explican todas las medidas que se pueden poner en práctica a lo largo del proceso judicial y que involucrarían cambios importantes a nivel social para quienes no ven otra salida económica y prevén un posible aliciente a la creciente crisis carcelaria en Ecuador.
