This is the second volume of previously unpublished photographs from the camera of David Reed, focusing on the electric and diesel traction of the late 1960s and 1970s.The photographs of locomotives and multiple units, none of which remain in regular service, feature a variety of locations. On the Eastern and London Midland regions they range from the London area to North Wales, Crewe, Carlisle, East Anglia, Bradford, Ilkley, Manchester and Liverpool. Areas of Scotland pictured include the Ayr coast, the far north, Inverness and Perth, and the renowned ‘Glasgow Blue Trains’. On the Western Region, Paddington, Reading, and the West Country are featured. Many locomotive types no longer in service are pictured and some carry their original green liveries. Many of the locations captured have since changed considerably.

This book contains previously unpublished photographs from the collection of David Reed, who set out to record the end of steam trains on British Rail’s Southern Region. Also recorded here are steam engines in the locomotive graveyards at Salisbury, Weymouth and Barry, as well as steam engines used by London Transport. The early steam preservation years are covered, including some locations that no longer exist: the Great Western Society at Taplow, Ashchurch, the Wallingford branch and the ‘Marlow Donkey’ Centenary all feature. The Longmoor Military Railway open days are pictured together with early years of the Dart Valley Railway at Buckfastleigh and Ashburton. The Didcot Railway Centre, Dinting Railway Centre, Ashford Steam Centre and the Sittingbourne & Kemsley Railway are also featured, along with the iconic Bluebell Railway.

In this volume of previously unpublished photographs, David Reed takes the reader on a journey around the Southern Region.The Waterloo–Bournemouth and Weymouth line features with Woking, Basingstoke and the New Forest, together with the south coast ‘Coastway’ route between Portsmouth, Brighton and Hastings, including a brief hop over to the Isle of Wight. There are also photographs taken on the Waterloo–Reading line, and the Alton–Winchester and Swanage lines before they closed. A variety of elderly 1930s and at the time modern 1960s electric locomotives, electric trains and diesel multiple units and locos are pictured in various liveries, none of which remain in service.

In this volume of previously unpublished photographs David Reed records traction-engine rallies from the late 1960s through to the early 1980s. These images feature showman’s engines, heavy haulage engines, steam lorries, tractors and road rollers. Engines are pictured attending rallies at Andover, the Beaulieu fair organ festivals, Hungerford Old Tyme Steam Fair, Basingstoke Steam & Transport Festival as well as scrap-condition engines at Hurstbourne. The Historic Commercial Vehicle Run is visited at Brighton, along with the Stourpaine Great Working of Steam Engines, the Hollycombe Steam Collection, the Great Dorset Steam Fair and Dingles Steam Village.
