Max Porter is amongst the most exciting British writers of the twenty-first century. His striking books straddle the divide between poetry and prose as deftly as they combine literary experimentation with mainstream success. This book is the first study of his works to date, which encompass Grief Is the Thing with Feathers (2015), Lanny (2019), The Death of Francis Bacon (2021) and Shy (2023). Literary Heritage examines the literary heritage sector in the post-pandemic moment. The book argues that this is a unique time for literary heritage management and demonstrates that the key to understanding it is an analysis of the transformations that took place because of the Covid-19 pandemic.Through an analysis of literary heritage sites across the UK’s four nations, this study provides an overview of practice from sites managed by national organisations as well as independent museums. Presenting a quantitative and qualitative overview of the challenges faced by the sector in the wake of the pandemic, Rudrum and Williams explore the innovations literary heritage organisations initiated in response. The book displays the wealth of ingenuity that was on display during this trying moment for the sector. It also looks forward to the new normal in the industry: a move towards the outdoors, increased use of online engagement, and creative arts and community programming that brings the literary past to the political present. At the same time as this, the early years of the 21st century have seen a stream of critical formulations proclaiming a successor to postmodernism. Intriguing and exciting new terms such as ‘remodernism’, ‘performatism’, ‘hypermodernism’, ‘automodernism”, ‘renewalism’, ‘altermodernism’, ‘digimodernism’ and ‘metamodernism’ have been coined, proposed and debated as terms for what comes after the postmodern. Trolling began long before the internet. This accessible history traces the ancestry of its textual and rhetorical strategies, by looking at literature from ancient Greece to the 1980s. Trolling is the most controversial genre of writing to have risen to prominence in the 21st century, with far-reaching consequences for its writers and readers alike.
