Nach einer Diskussion bekannter Assoziativspeicherkonzepte beschreibt dieses Buch ein neues Verfahren zur Realisierung VLSI-gerechter assoziativer Monoprozessorarchitekturen als "flagorientierte Systeme", die sowohl arithmetisch-boolesche als auch komplexe Suchoperationen fur Datensatze vollparallel durchfuhren. Die Basis derartiger Architekturen bildet ein Transformationsverfahren, mit dem die zu verarbeitenden Daten in einen Bildbereich uberfuhrt und durch binare, als Flags bezeichnete Grossen reprasentiert werden. Die Parallelarbeit wird durch simultane Verarbeitung und Manipulation von Flags erreicht. Die Ergebnisse einer Operation im Bildbereich konnen wieder in den Originalbereich zurucktransformiert werden. Zur Beschreibung und Ausfuhrung von Operationen im Bildbereich wird eine neue Algebra (genannt Flag-Algebra) definiert. Sie stellt die Grundlage zur Entwicklung VLSI-gerechter parallel arbeitender Speicher- und Recheneinheiten dar, die jeweils eine modular kaskadierbare Struktur aufweisen.

TheIMC2009programconsistedofthreeinvitedtalksfrominternational- perts, four tutorials on fundamental techniques related to the conference topics, nine regular paper sessions, and a short paper / poster session. We received close to 50 submissions from 15 countries world-wide. Based on the ano- mous reviews provided by members of the international Program Committee, the Steering Committee recommended accepting 50% of the contributions as regular papers and another 15% as short papers with poster presentation. To our regret there were a few interesting papers that we had to reject. However, the reviewing results showed a high quality as well as an interesting variety of submissions. We would like to thank all authors for carefully preparing the results of their worksubmitted to IMC 2009,thus enabling an interesting and high-quality c- ferenceprogram.Moreover,wearedeeplygratefultoallmembersoftheProgram and Steering Committees for their e?orts in quickly and thoroughly evaluating the papers.
