The Universal Declaration of Human Rights marked a fundamental milestone for the defense of equality between men and women. However, to this day, its development and implementation in everyday practices within diverse social, labor and educational environments remains to be seen. As education is the basis for the prevention of gender discrimination and violence, it is crucial that professionals in their respective fields are familiar with inclusiveness strategies in order to be able to integrate a gender perspective in their teaching.In this bilingual volume, which includes contributions in both English and Spanish, researchers from Europe and the Americas come together to analyze and reflect on gender issues from a multidisciplinary perspective: from improving gender education in schools and universities, to tackling the gender pay gap and gender-based violence, and understanding the role of gender in both contemporary migratory processes and criminality. La investigación sociológica en España se ha ocupado escasamente de explorar las profesiones y cuando lo ha hecho ha obviado, con frecuencia, el concurso y la intervención de los diversos actores en los procesos de emergencia, desarrollo y conformación de la profesión que es estudiada. Salvo raras excepciones, los investigadores de los más diversos campos de conocimiento han explorado poco las posibilidades que encierra el concepto de profesionalización -un concepto clave en la teoría de las profesiones y, en general, en teoría sociológica- a la hora de asentar y ahondar en los territorios profesionales. La atención a este término o significante permite desvelar la importancia de los diferentes actores con los recursos que aporta al desarrollo de una profesión. Este trabajo aborda esta cuestión y la profundiza, poniendo especial interés en tres de los actores que contribuyen al proceso de profesionalización de la Educación Social -profesión tipificada como propia de los Estados de Bienestar- y de los educadores sociales o profesionales que la habitan: así, se da cuenta del papel que el Estado, la Universidad y la propia profesión juegan en tales procesos, mostrando particular énfasis en el segundo actor, como agencia formadora e investigadora inexcusable en la capacitación de los citados profesionales.Esta línea de investigación, en la que los tres autores del libro vienen insistiendo desde hace tiempo, propicia el abordaje de multitud de cuestiones, además de las ya citadas, como el de las competencias, la socialización profesional, los modelos de profesionalización, las políticas sociales, la urgente cuestión de la formación...
