U2 were Formed at a Dublin Secondary School by Adam Clayton, Bono, The Edge and Larry Mullen Jr. Like most bands, they wanted to be among the best in the world. By 1991, with Achtung Baby in the pipeline and War, The Unforgettable Fire and The Joshua Tree behind them, they were arguably deserving of that intention. Yet there was more to the band than the stadium records that made their fans deliriously happy and the music's creators artistically and lucratively fulfilled. Their second album, October, opened the four piece into a spiritual journey that fed their later work. Their double album Rattle and Hum proved one of the greatest torchbearers of American music of its time. And then there were Zooropa and Pop - dance oriented albums that showed the initially-punk oriented quartet exploring effects, sounds and territories that few of their contemporaries dared contemplate. That they should exist forty years after their debut is testament to the will, fortitude and versatility U2 holds. Their most recent works Songs of Innocence and Songs of Experience have proven their most reflective and perhaps their most autobiographical. What lies next for U2 only the band know, but this book delves into their past work, without leaving a passenger behind.

From the pastoral to the prog, from the folk-fables of their early work to the funkier material heard on their 1980s output, Queen had something for everyone in the audience. It didn't hurt that Queen boasted four songwriters—three of them singers—and a lust for glory, which was evident in their foot-stomping rendition of 'Radio Gaga' at Live Aid. Known for delivering scintillating sets, Queen were also notable for their album work, which exhibited a versatility rarely heard since The Beatles. _A Night At The Opera_ has gone on to become their most fondly remembered album, but that does a disservice to _Queen II_, _News of The World_ and _Hot Space_, which more than matched the 1975 album for ambition and conviction.The band's last three albums were completed as a testament to Freddie Mercury, the band's lead singer, who died before Queen released _Made In Heaven_ in 1995\. Eulogising the singer on an album, the three surviving members pulled their resources together for one final hurrah on 'No One But You (Only The Good Die Young)', a codicil that recognised their comrade’s integrity, gleeful nature and fun. Depending on who you asked, George Harrison was many different things to different people. There was his songcraft, which won over the affections of producer savant Phil Spector; there was his musicianship, that captured the hearts of blues geniuses Eric Clapton and Delaney Bramlett; and then there was his penchant for comedy, which made him an obvious shoo-in for Rutland Weekend Television and Saturday Night Live. Like U2 themselves, Lyng harbours a tremendous love for The Beatles and has long aspired to write a book about the Fab Four. For him, the band peaked with Revolver, but he finds their solo work that bit more interesting to explore. And when the solo material includes Living In The Material World and Extra Texture (Read All About It), can you blame him? Much like the guitarist he's written about, Lyng doesn't consider Life of Brian blasphemous but rates The Long Good Friday higher than Harrison. He lives in Dublin, Ireland.
