The Inflammatory Ecosystem and Inflammazones offers a groundbreaking framework for understanding inflammation across multiple spatial and molecular levels. It introduces the concept of distinct inflammazones-local, regional, distal, and systemic-and explores how their interactions influence disease development, progression, and resolution. This holistic approach integrates cellular, molecular, microbiome, and systemic responses, addressing a critical gap in current knowledge and advancing diagnostics and therapies for diseases like autoimmunity and cancer. The book is organized into six sections, starting with foundational principles and progressing through mechanisms of local, regional, and systemic inflammazones. It covers key components such as cytokines, chemokines, immune cells, and the roles of non-immune cells like fibroblasts and epithelial cells. The final sections focus on systems-level insights, including inflammaging, metabolism, and multi-omics technologies, culminating in strategies for personalized medicine and clinical translation. Each chapter combines cutting-edge research with clinical relevance, making complex concepts accessible and actionable. The Inflammatory Ecosystem and Inflammazones is essential for researchers and clinicians seeking to understand the complex landscape of inflammation. It highlights disease heterogeneity, emerging therapeutic targets, and the importance of systems biology, providing the foundational knowledge to shape future inflammation research and treatment strategies.Presents the innovative concept of inflammazones, redefining the spatial organization of inflammationIntegrates molecular, cellular, and systemic perspectives for a comprehensive understanding of inflammatory diseasesHighlights emerging therapeutic targets within distinct inflammazones for personalized treatment strategiesConnects basic research with clinical applications, enhancing diagnostic and intervention approachesProvides a systems-level framework to explore inflammation’s role in chronic and age-related diseases

The book conveys a comprehensive knowledge of long and short ncRNAs in cancer regulation and their potentials as diagnostic biomarkers and therapeutic targets. Topics covered include the molecular mechanisms of various classes of ncRNAs (with emphasis on long non-coding RNAs and microRNAs) in cancer, the functional roles of ncRNAs in regulating different cancer hallmarks (including proliferation, apoptosis, stem-cell properties, epithelial-mesenchymal transition, metabolism, angiogenesis, tumor-host interactions and therapeutic resistance), the role of ncRNAs in regulating cancer signaling circuitry programs (highlighting their involvement in c-myc, p53 and NFkB signaling), a systemic summary of clinical and preclinical studies that evaluate the potential of ncRNA signatures for cancer diagnosis and prognosis and strategies to delivery short ncRNAs as therapeutic molecules for cancer treatment. This book may serve as a comprehensive resource for researchers, graduate students and oncologists in ncRNA and cancer research and help drug development by identifying ncRNA targets.

This book offers a comprehensive introduction to translational efforts in breast cancer, addressing the latest approaches to precision medicine based on the current state of understanding of breast cancer. With the latest developments in breast cancer research, our understanding of the genomic changes and the oncogenic signaling cascade of breast cancer has made considerable strides. Further, the immuno-environment has been demonstrated as the barrier to clinical cancer. In addition, major advances in cancer biology, immunology, genomics and metabolism have broken new ground for designing therapeutic approaches and selecting appropriate treatments on the basis of more precise information on the individual patient. As a result of these two trends, a clearer picture of the molecular landscape of breast cancers has facilitated the development of diagnostic, prognostic and predictive biomarkers for clinical oncology. All these aspects are addressed in this volume, which offers a comprehensive resource for researchers, graduate students and oncologists in cancer research.

This book intends to report new concept of onco-spheres in cancer ecosystem. Onco-spheres are defined as where cancer cells (living organisms) dynamically interact with nontumor cellular (other living organisms) and noncellular components (non-living environmental factors) in the ‘host’ internal environment (habitat) to construct a self-sustainable cancer ecosystem, which can be scoped at three different levels: primary/regional, distal and systemic onco-spheres.Cancer cells should be conceived as ‘living organisms’, interacting with cellular or noncellular components in the host internal environment, not only with the local tumor microenvironment (TME) but also constantly communicating with a distant organ niche as well interacting with the host’s nervous, endocrine and immune systems, to construct a self-sustainable ‘biosphere’, as we termed the tumor ecosystem. By looking at theinteraction of cancer and host as a unique ecosystem, we will use ecology principles to further delineate the features of the dynamics of the tumor ecosystem. As the pioneer in proposing this concept, we feel that this full-scale overview of the tumor ecosystem is able to inform the readers about this concept, and to pave the way for designing novel therapeutic strategies on actionable targets within tumor ecosystem. The book is likely to be of interest to immunologist, biologist, medical students, researchers and general public who wish to learn more on this new concept of tumor ecosystem, and how this could be applied in many fields of research.
