Die Arbeit analysiert aktuelle Entlehnungen und Lehnwortintegrationen im Französischen und in anderen romanischen Sprachen. In Abgrenzung zu traditionellen Ansätzen, die entsprechende Phänomene im Wesentlichen auf der Ebene der beteiligten Sprachsysteme betrachten, wird konsequent eine Perspektive zugrunde gelegt, die von den Sprachbenutzern und ihren einzelnen kommunikativen Handlungen ausgeht (methodologischer Individualismus, usage-based). Auf dieser Grundlage lässt sich eine große Komplexität der untersuchten Phänomene feststellen, die sich insbesondere darin manifestiert, dass häufig konkurrierende Varianten von Lehnwörtern in der Zielsprache auftreten (z.B. frz. fuel/fioul, people/pipole). Wesentliches Ziel der Arbeit ist es, die Komplexität dieser Phänomene in sprachwandeltheoretischer Hinsicht zu erfassen und eine kommunikationstheoretisch adäquate Modellierung zu erarbeiten; darüber hinaus wird im Rahmen umfassender Fallstudien analysiert, wie sich die Verwendung unterschiedlicher Varianten von Lehnwörtern aus Sicht der Kommunikationsteilnehmer motivieren lässt. Insgesamt erweisen sich Entlehnung und Lehnwortintegration damit als dynamische Phänomene der sprachlichen Kreativität, die letztlich zwischen den Kommunikationsteilnehmern verhandelt werden.

Les jeux de mots peuvent être considérés comme un véritable phénomène d’interface. Ils apparaissent à la fois dans la communication quotidienne et dans la littérature, et peuvent avoir des fonctions diverses: ils peuvent être distrayants et comiques, déguiser un sujet tabou ou encore influencer la manière dont on perçoit le caractère du locuteur. Une autre caractéristique fondamentale des jeux de mots est celle de servir à la réflexion sur la langue et sur la communication. Les jeux de mots font apparaître des caractéristiques du langage littéraire dans la communication quotidienne, et incitent à analyser les œuvres littéraires selon une perspective linguistique. Les deux premiers volumes de la série The Dynamics of Wordplay visent à réunir des contributions linguistiques et littéraires sur les techniques du jeu de mots et ses relations aux innovations linguistiques en général. Ces réflexions sont complétées par une série d’études de cas qui analysent l’usage du jeu de mots chez différents auteurs et dans différents contextes historiques. Ainsi, partant de situations de communication très variées, les contributions permettent de reconsidérer la dynamique du jeu de mots dans toutes ses facettes.

Conjointement avec le premier volume de la série, les contributions de ce volume analysent des techniques et des traditions fondamentales du jeu de mots dans des situations de communication variées et offrent ainsi de nouvelles perspectives sur la dynamique du jeu de mots dans toutes ses facettes.

This volume serves to illustrate the promising insights to be gained when cross-fertilizing Cognitive Linguistics and contact linguistics, which each hold crucial ingredients to an encompassing study of contact-induced variation and change.

Combining the study of the individual mind with the study of shared context, bridging research on experience and perspective with research on variation and change, and tackling the methodological complexities that this empirical approach to mental categorization entails, help us determine how the meaningful units that make up language are categorized and structured in the bi- and multilingual mind and, by extension, in any human mind.

Together, the ten papers in this volume reveal the complexities of the interaction between usage, meaning and mind in contact-induced variation and change, which we hope will inspire future research exploring the possibilities of the cross-fertilization we have labeled Cognitive Contact Linguistics.

The present manual aims to establish this approach at an international level by assembling contributions that introduce its theoretical foundations, discuss connections with alternative approaches of text and discourse analysis, show the relevance of Discourse Traditions for the history of Romance languages, and explore possibilities for future applications of the concept.

Together with the volume DWP 7, it assembles selected papers presented at the interdisciplinary conference The Dynamics of Wordplay / La dynamique du jeu de mots (Trier, 2016) and stresses the inherent dynamicity of wordplay and wordplay research.
