This book is a comprehensive introduction to the theoretical, methodological and epistemological aspects of the Theory of Subjectivity created by Fernando González Rey (1949-2019). After the publication of the book Epistemología Cualitativa y Subjetividad [Qualitative Epistemology and Subjectivity] by Fernando González Rey in 1997, which marked the beginning of efforts to incorporate the topic of subjectivity from a cultural-historical perspective, research grounded in this approach has multiplied. This book aims to highlight the development of the Theory of Subjectivity since its initial formulation and to further deepen and clarify the relationship between the Theory of Subjectivity, Qualitative Epistemology, and the Constructive-Interpretive Methodology.This volume also intends to delve deeper, in a didactic way, into the process of constructing information from the perspective of the Theory of Subjectivity. To this end, it discusses the results of studies based on this framework with the aim of delving into this complex process of theoretical construction in research, overcoming the idea of 'empirical research' so widespread in the empirical-instrumental paradigm. Rejecting the logic of data collection as the accumulation of fragments, the authors emphasize the research as a theoretical construction, in which dialogue constitutes a subjective and relational space. In this space, participants and researchers become agents whose singular productions make possible the emergence of information relevant to the purpose of the research. The theoretical model emerges as the living core of research, constantly constituted by new indicators, hypotheses, and constructions that integrate empirical expressions with conceptual elaboration. This is an English edition of a book originally published in Portuguese. The translation of the original manuscript into English was done with the help of artificial intelligence. The technical and stylistic revision was carried out by the specialists Daniel Magalhães Goulart, José Fernando Patiño Torres, and Bruno Reis Bernardo Cobucci.

El libro se integra en dos momentos diferentes, el primero, que es su aspecto esencial, expresa una nueva interpretación del legado de Vygotski e integra innumerables fuentes antes desconocidas sobre ese legado. El segundo momento del libro es en sí mismo otro libro, y está orientado a presentarnos la historia sobre como el pensamiento de Vygotski entró y se desarrolló en tres países: Argentina, México y España. Este libro nos trae a un Vygotski desconocido en muchas de sus facetas y muy poco conocido en el último momento de su obra, entre 1930 y 1934, quizás el período más fecundo de su pensamiento. A book which theorises the relations between the social and the individual through a study of a child’s perezhivanie, which analyses emotions more holistically, and advances the concepts of subjective sense and subjective configuration, is much needed. This book examines the complexity of human development through a comprehensive elaboration of these concepts, allowing for new insights to be put forward. It doesn’t always follow the chronological order of Vygotsky’s publications, as many of his works remained in the family archives until the 1980s, when his Selected Works were first published in Russian. There has long been a need for a contemporary book on the scholarly treatment of perezhevanie, emotions, and subjectivity, and as such this book revisits dominant representations of these concepts and then puts forward new ways of conceptualising and using them in empirical research. This book opens up a critical dialogue within and across the theoretical traditions of critical psychology and cultural-historical psychology. It explores and addresses fundamental issues and problems within both traditions, with a view to identifying new avenues for productive discussion and cooperation between these two important movements in contemporary psychology. Accordingly, the book gathers contributions from a range of internationally respected researchers from both fields who have demonstrated a willingness to look critically, and self-critically, at their theoretical allegiances and trajectories.
