Musicians’ Migratory Patterns: The Adriatic Coasts contains essays dedicated to the movement of musicians along and across the coasts of the Adriatic Sea. In the course of this book, the musicians become narrators of their own stories seen through the lenses of wanderlust, opportunity, exile, and refuge. Essayists in this collection are scholars hailing from Croatia, Italy, and Greece. They are internationally known for their passionate advocacy of musicians’ migratory rights and faithfulness to the lesson imparted by the history of immigration in the broadest of terms. Released in 1972, 1974, and 1990 respectively, Francis Ford Coppola's three-part saga is one of the greatest artistic accomplishments (and financial successes) in the history of Hollywood cinema. The latest in Scarecrow's Film Score Guides series, Nino Rota's The Godfather Trilogy: A Film Score Guide discusses the events that led to the realization of the three films and studies and analyzes their music. Sciannameo reexamines The Godfather Trilogy from a variety of perspectives, with special focus on the music Rota composed to bind together approximately nine hours of cinematic narrative. Probing Rota's formation as a musician amidst the cultural climate established by Italian Fascism, Sciannameo examines Rota's initial stylistic adherence to the Mussolini-dictated or inspired concept of Italianness and then his return to a more congenial 19th-century formulaic vocabulary. Sciannameo considers Rota's involvement with cinema and his collaboration with many celebrated directors, such as Luchino Visconti, Federico Fellini, Franco Zeffirelli, and Coppola, and deals with the sensitive issues of cultural analysis vis-à-vis the Mafia as a concept embedded within the Italian-American community. The book also discusses the sound of the Godfather films, describing and analyzing the musical subtexts underscoring a group of pivotal scenes. Relying substantially on Rota's notes, which are discussed here for the first time, the book reveals the composer's interpretation of Coppola's cinematic narrative and the scoring methodologies he employed.

In this collection, Franco Sciannameo and Alessandra Carlotta Pellegrini select and translate into English for the first time essays that reflect the evolution of recent scholarship on Scelsi’s musical compositions. Music as Dream opens with “The Scelsi Case,” which erupted shortly after Scelsi’s death in 1988 when composer Vieri Tosatti claimed ownership of his works. This quarrel reached its zenith in the pages of PianoTime’s March 1989 issue, where musicologist Guido Zaccagnini questioned a group of noted composers, writers, and arts managers about whether a composer can claim sole authorship for a work accomplished in collaboration with others. The essays are wide-ranging in scope. The year 2025 marks the fiftieth anniversary of Luigi Dallapiccola’s death, a time to reflect on significant episodes that enriched his life, works, and the generations of composers he influenced. Luigi Dallapiccola, America, and the Unlocking of Visionary Creativity intends to add a few tassels to two fundamental works by Mario Ruffini: Luigi Dallapiccola e le Arti figurative (Marsilio, 2016) and L'opera di Luigi Dallapiccola: Catalogo ragionato (SZ Sugar, 2025). The latter book, dedicated to the memory of Laura Dallapiccola and translated into English by Elisabetta Zoni (Olschki, 2025), has inaugurated a new era in the field of Dallapiccola Studies. In this book, Dallapiccola’s life, the authors argue, was marked by a series of creative epiphanies, from his encounter with Laura, his adoption of twelve-tone music serialism, the birth of their daughter Annalibera—which coincided with the fall of fascism—and his career in the United States that included the world premiere of Quaderno musicale di Annalibera (Pittsburgh, 1952). The world premiere of Ulisse, which took place at the Deutsche Oper Berlin on September 29, 1968, under the baton of Lorin Maazel, was an ultimate milestone marking Dallapiccola’s extraordinary career and life.
