This edited book is based on the best papers accepted for presentation during the 2nd Springer Conference of the Arabian Journal of Geosciences (CAJG-2), Tunisia, in 2019. It is of interest to all researchers practicing geophysics/seismology, structural, and petroleum geology.With four sections spanning a large spectrum of geological and geophysical topics with particular reference to Middle East, Mediterranean region, and Africa, this book presents a series of research methods that are nowadays in use for measuring, quantifying, and analyzing several geological domains.It starts with a subsection dedicated to the latest research studies on seismic hazard and risk assessment in Africa presented during the 2019 IGCP-659 meeting organized alongside the CAJG-2. And, it includes new research studies on earthquake geodesy, seismotectonics, archeoseismology and active faulting, well logging methods, geodesy and exploration/theoretical geophysics, petroleum geochemistry, petroleum engineering, structural geology, basement architecture and potential data, tectonics and geodynamics, and thermicity, petroleum, and other georesources. The edited book gives insights into the fundamental questions that address the genesis and evolution of our planet, and this is based on data collection and experimental investigations under physical constitutive laws. These multidisciplinary approaches combined with the geodynamics of tectonic provinces and investigations of potential zones of natural resources (petroleum reservoirs) provide the basis for a more sustainability in the economic development.

This book summarizes the links between the evolution of sedimentary basins of Northern Africa and Peri-Mediterranean in different tectonic settings and the distribution of georesources in those basins. Georesources include fossil energy, geothermal energy, deep aquifers, minerals and deposits.

This book addresses the strategic georesources in Egypt in terms of their geologic settings, exploitation, environmental impacts and sustainable development. These resources developed in a wide variety of tectonic settings, ranging from compressional, transpressional, transtensional, wrenching to extensional. Some of them are related to specific depositional environments. A particular attention is given to the added values and economic importance of these resources. The book is aimed at young geoscientists, established researchers, and other professionals interested in geoscientists, especially those active in economic geology and related multidisciplines. It contains up-to-date basic materials, recent basic references and thematic maps, as well as valuable data that are rapidly accumulated in the last few decades about georesources in Egypt. Book chapters are authored by influential scholars and well-known scientists working in both academia and research institutions. Some chapters explore precious metals, placer mineral deposits and phosphate deposits. Others demonstrate building and construction raw materials, along with ceramic and porcelain raw materials. Fossil fuels (Oil, natural gas and coal) as a non-renewable source of energy in Egypt are also presented. Characteristics and industrial applications of white sand in Sinai Peninsula, and black sand deposits as a substantial reserve for heavy-minerals in Egypt are given more attention. Besides, Rare Earth Elements, niobium-tantalum mineralization and beryllium mineralization are the subject matter of details in a specific chapters. Strategic metals and ore deposits hosted in mafic-ultamafic lithologies and granitic pegmatites are examined. Also, Phanerozoic-related ore deposits and water resources are highlighted. The last chapters provide a state-of-art on the application of GIS, remote sensing and geophysical methods in exploring strategic georesources in Egypt.

It also provides key information for energy resources in these areas. The book is a compilation of selected papers from the Task Force of the International Lithosphere Program (ILP). It comprises a set of research studies from the Middle East, North Africa and the Mediterranean domain focusing on (1) the architecture, geodynamic evolution and modelling of the Red Sea rift system and its surroundings, and tectonics and sedimentation in the Gulf of Corinth, (2) the crustal architecture and georesources of the North Algerian Offshore, (3) Reservoirs, aquifers and fluid transfers in Saudi Basins, Petroleum systems and salt tectonics in Yemen and (4) Cretaceous-Eocene foreland inversions in Saudi Arabia.

This book will constitute the proceedings of the ILP Workshop held in Abu Dhabi in December 2009. It will include a reprint of the 11 papers published in the December 2010 issue of the AJGS, together with 11 other original papers.
