The enlargement of the European Union and issues related to it are a central aspect of European policy. The challenges faced are diverse and immense. The development of Vocational Education and Training (VET) is a major concern of the Lisbon strategy for making Europe a prosperous place in which to live and work in the 21st century. Since the Lisbon Council met in 2000, the development of VET has been very high on European policy agendas. It has been agreed to step up European co-operation in this area. This process began with the Copenhagen Declaration in2002.ThenewestmemberstatesoftheEU—amongthemtheBalticstates— are now involved in this Copenhagen process and are a source of enormous (human) potential that can greatly enrich Europe. TheconceptoftheEUVETpolicyisoutlinedinthe?rstchapterofthisp- lication. Chapters two and three form the core of the publication and describe the characteristics of VET systems, VET programmes, and approaches to VET teacher training in the Baltic states. Chapter four expands this perspective and illustrates aspects of internationalisation in higher education. In particular, a joint degree programme to qualify VET staff is detailed. The internationali- tion of degree programmes is a serious challenge for university faculties. The global dimension in teaching international degree programmes is discussed in the ?nal part of this book.

Das Arbeitsbuch ist die didaktische Ergänzung zum Technikunterricht mit der Lernplattform CoSiTo. Lehrende in den Klassen 5 bis 12 können für die projektbezogenen Unterrichtsmaterialien verschiedene Lernszenarien auswählen.Gemeinsame Grundlage von Buch und Lernplattform im Netz ist das Konzept des situierten Lernens. Verschiedene Evaluationen haben gezeigt, dass dieser Lernansatz zu einem deutlich besseren Stoffverständnis führt, eine positive Einstellung zum Fach fördert und damit auch die fachlichen Fähigkeiten verbessert.Lehrende im Fach Technik finden praktische Anleitungen für das situierte Lernen, Umsetzungshilfen und Materialien sowie Hinweise zu den technischen Voraussetzungen und Implementationen im eigenen Unterricht. Das Buch enthält einen Zugangscode für die Lernplattform. Der Stoff orientiert sich am Curriculum des Landes Sachsen-Anhalt.

Für die Berufsausbildung der bau- und holztechnischen Berufe existieren bisher nur begrenzt Arbeiten, mit denen ein Konzept experimentierenden Lernens umfassend entwickelt worden ist. Es ist daher das Anliegen des Buches, eine handlungstheoretisch begründete Konzeption zum experimentierenden Lernen in der Bau- und Holztechnik zu entwickeln. Darüber hinaus werden für die Hand des Lehrers entwickelte Experimente der Holz- und Bautechnik dargestellt.

In der empirischen Begleitstudie werden Wissenszuwachs, Akzeptanz und Umgang mit der Lernplattform CoSiTo untersucht. Das webbasierte Lehr- und Lerninstrument kombiniert digitale Technik mit dem Ansatz des situierten Lernens. Auf der Plattform werden alters- und lernplangerechte Inhalte aus dem Technikunterricht an allgemeinen und berufsbildenden Schulen vermittelt. Die Autorinnen und Autoren untersuchen darüber hinaus, welche Verwertungs- und Anwendungschancen die Plattform für die Bereiche Aus-, Weiter- und Hochschulbildung bietet.
