Fragments of a Childhood presents a collection of short stories offering an intimate glimpse into author Gerda Christensen''s childhood in Denmark. She reminisces about the sacrifice, love, and the close-knit ties that can only be created by the strength of family. She talks about the greatest trauma her family experienced - her father''s struggle with alcohol, which eventually took him away from the family forever. After the departure of their father, Gerda, her mother and her five sibblings had to live with her grandparents until her mother remarried six years later. While theirs was a difficult childhood, she recalls many good memories from their early life along with the bad ones. Through all of the stories, the common thread is her love for her family and her homeland. Although she would eventually migrate to Canada, the memories of the past are lovingly recounted for all to enjoy in this collection.

I dont think its fair to the trolls that in most literature they are described as horrible creatures. Not all of them are monsters. In my stories we are following the little, good-natured troll boy, Peter, through a summer. Together with his parents and old grandmother he lives in a hill far out on the Jutlandish moor in Denmark. Troll Peter is a curious little troll who likes to go exploring. But sometimes his adventures bring him into trouble, as when he falls down into the Bog-womans cave, and she wants him to stay there. He also ventures out to the Big Hill on Midsummer Eve and there he spots some witches flying on broomsticks on their way to The Blocken Mountain in Germany. That scares him! During the summer he meets other Danish folklore creatures, and he has many exciting adventures. Granny plays an important role in Troll Peters life. His parents are always busy providing food for the daily meals but Granny is always there, ready to comfort him. And the old troll woman knows that honey is the best medicine for all kinds of hurt. Troll Peter loves her very much.

In TROLL PETERS ADVENTURES BOOK 3 were back on the moor of Jutland, where Troll Peter, his parents and old Granny have their home, a hut partly dug into a hill. Its called Troll Hill. One day they get an invitation to visit their relatives, the Bridge Troll and his family. The occasion is that the King of The Trolls will cross their bridge, as he travels through Jutland. The troll family certainly does not want to miss that event. - Troll Peter also goes fishing at the creek in the meadow, and he has some dramatic moments there. But in the end he carries home a big fish for Granny to eat. Troll Peter loves his grandmother. She is old, but she is still very much alive. One day she decides to take her grandson on a picnic to a spring on the moor. But its shows to be further away than she remembers. So they have to stay overnight there. And while the stars are twinkling in the sky, they witness something strange going on at the spring. TROLL PETERS ADVENTURES BOOK 4 will follow.

In TROLL PETERS ADVENTURES BOOK 4, Troll Peter and his family are busy at Troll Hill, preparing for winter. However, the little troll boy is sad that the summer is over. But then something exciting happens. He is allowed to go with his father to a farm outside the moor to get supplies for their Midwinter Feast. Of course, its done at night time when the farmer sleeps. There Troll Peter meets Nissen, the friendly Barn Gnome. He lives in the hayloft of the farm, but comes down at night to take care of the barn animals, so they can thrive well. Then on their way home over the moor, Troll Peter also comes to know a mysterious little fellow, called Willy Wisp. - In the end of the story the troll family is having a good time, celebrating the shortest day of the year with a yule log crackling in the fireplace. And after dinner they climb to stand on top of Troll Hill, just to enjoy the stillness of the moor. Its a special moment. Its Midwinter Eve and the snow is falling, soft and white out of the dark sky.
