This book contains accepted papers presented at SOCO 2022 conference held in the beautiful and historic city of Salamanca (Spain), in September 2022.Soft computing represents a collection or set of computational techniques in machine learning, computer science, and some engineering disciplines, which investigate, simulate, and analyze very complex issues and phenomena. After a thorough peer-review process, the 17th SOCO 2022 International Program Committee selected 64 papers which are published in these conference proceedings and represent an acceptance rate of 60%. In this relevant edition, a particular emphasis was put on the organization of special sessions. Seven special sessions were organized related to relevant topics such as machine learning and computer vision in Industry 4.0; time series forecasting in industrial and environmental applications; optimization, modeling, and control by soft computing techniques; soft computing applied to renewable energy systems; preprocessing big data in machine learning; tackling real-world problems with artificial intelligence. The selection of papers was extremely rigorous to maintain the high quality of the conference. We want to thank the members of the program committees for their hard work during the reviewing process. This is a crucial process for creating a high-standard conference; the SOCO conference would not exist without their help.

This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 16th International Conference on Flexible Query Answering Systems, FQAS 2025, held in Burgas, Bulgaria, during September 11–13, 2025.The 26 full papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from 49 submissions. The proceedings also include 3 invited talk and 2 tutorial papers. They were organized in the following topical sections: Invited Talks; Flexible Query Answering Systems; Data-driven Quality Management and Intelligent Systems for Academic Processes and Flexible Decision-making; Language Models in Advanced Information Retrieval; Intuitionistic Fuzzy Approaches for Flexible Querying and Reasoning under Uncertainty; and Emerging Trends in Flexible Query Answering and Information Retrieval.

A more intuitive, easy and powerful representation, access, and retrieval of information is nowadays a necessary feature of information systems that have become a common instrument for a wide class of users in di?erent areas and for the most diversi?ed tasks. The management of imprecision and uncertainty in databases has become an important research area, which has known an impressive growth. This is testi?ed the increasing number of special sessions in international conferences and workshops devoted to this theme. Generally, this topic matured and developed independently within both the traditional database community and the community of researchers on fuzzy sets, and only very recently some joint initiatives have been undertaken. Since the Workshop titled “Supporting Imprecision and Uncertainty in Flexible DataBases” we organized within the DEXA Conference in Zaragoza on August 2004, our intent is to bring together a wide community of - searchers in the ?eld of databases, Information Retrieval, Spatial Information Systems, knowledge representation and multimedia, to share experiences and methods concerning the management of uncertainty and imprecision in da- bases. This volume collects a selected number of contributions of well known pioneerresearcheswho, atvariouslevels, proposedmodelsandtheapplication ofmethodstorepresentandmanageuncertaintyandimprecisionindatabases. Many approaches have been proposed in the literature on the modelling of uncertainty and imprecision in databases. To o?er a panoramic view of the methods proposed so far to students, researchers and insightful practitioners, we included in the volume survey chapters on classic topics such as ?exible querying in databases, and database models to represent imperfect data.
E-Commerce and Web Technologies

The International Conference on E-commerce and Web Technologies (EC-Web) is a mature and well-established forum for researchers working in the area of electronic commerce and web technologies. These are the proceedings of the ninth conference in the series, which, like previous EC-Web conferences, was co-located with DEXA, the International Conference on Database and Expert Systems Applications, which, this year, took place in Turin, Italy. One key feature of EC-Web is its two-fold nature: it brings together both papers proposing technological solutions for e-commerce and the World Wide Web, and papers concerning the management of e-commerce, such as web marketing, the impact of e-commerce on business processes and organizations, the analysis of case studies, as well as social aspects of e-commerce (to understand the impact of e-commerce solutions on day-to-day life and the new opportunities that these behaviors open). The technical program included 12 reviewed papers and two invited papers. Each paper was reviewed by five reviewers, in order to select only the best quality papers. The program included five sessions: “Security in E-Commerce” (with two papers), “Social Aspects of E-Commerce” (with two papers), “Business Process and EC Inf- structures” (with three papers), “Recommender Systems and E-Negotiations” (with four papers) and “Web Marketing and User Profiling” (with three papers). We found the program interesting and we hope participants and readers feel the same. Furthermore, we hope the attendees enjoyed the conference and Turin. June 2008 Giuseppe Psaila Roland R. Wagner
