The third instalment in the Shadow of the Storm series. Jeniche and Alltud have been on an adventure for nearly three years. Now, the time has come for them to go home. But as they leave their hostel in the dead of the night, these plans are thwarted. The Qasireu of Alboran awaits the two travellers with a quest: they must move an item of great value, whose identity is to remain unknown.Carrying this item across the dusty moutains, they make a chance encounter: a woman from her past, who seems to know a great deal about the amulet around Jeniche’s neck and the power it possesses.Yet, the amulet isn’t the only secret the travellers carry with them. For little do they know, the item they are moving could pose a threat to the entire world.

A breathtaking tale of adventure, survival and loyalty. When the thief Jeniche finds her prison cell collapsing around her, she knows it is not going to be a good day.Certainly, the last thing she wanted once she escaped was to become involved with a group of monks and nuns being hunted by the Occassan soldiers who have invaded the city. Nor did she want to help the group flee by being their guide through the desert and mountains. Unfortunately, Jeniche’s skills are their only hope of making it out alive. But the soldiers are not the only danger waiting for them in the mountains.

Jeniche of Antar’s old life has a nasty habit of catching up with her.Jeniche of Antar has been a thief, a fugitive, and a long-time enemy of oppressive law. After her clash with the Occassans, the remote northern land of Ynysvron seemed a good place to lie-low and stay out of trouble, maybe even settle down. But it would seem that no matter how far she runs her old life has a nasty habit of catching up with her. When she is dragged into a dangerous quest for lost treasure, she is determined to slip away at the first opportunity. This seems less and less likely as she finds herself meeting old friends and enemies in a race to prevent an invasion of her new home.

All ritual is a focus. It makes you aware of the point at which you stand -- be that of a time of year, of day or night, of a moment of potential when the way forward becomes apparent or a possible future is revealed, of an instant when one cycle closing opens the next. It also makes you aware of the place where you stand, for none of the events celebrated by our rituals takes place in limbo. They happen in the real world, marking real and often intimate events of enormous consequence. And by marking these events, we allow them to mark us -- binding us to the sky, to the land, and to the sea from which they all derive. Along with sample rituals for the eightfold year and eight major rites of passage, it contains chapters on the nature of ritual and its place in our spiritual and everyday lives. There are also prayers and other workings.

The world is never as it seems, yet the truth is hidden by the distractions we make for ourselves. This is the dilemma that faces Rowland Henty. Has he really touched another reality, or were the wounds he received in the Afghan Wars in his mind as well as his body? As he struggles to come to terms with what is real, everything he learns pushes him ever deeper into uncertainty and the harsh reality that some call madness. Set in the 19th century, this is a tragic novel of love and loss, of the choices we make, of a man who walked between worlds that he could not even be certain existed.

An anthology of new writing.

Alone and lost in the blitzed city, Charlie Cornelius must navigate a shattered reality by creating her own maps.Charlie lives with her Nan in Deptford. In the early days of the Blitz they are bombed out and Charlie becomes separated from the only people she knows and trusts. Although just nine, she salvages what she can from the wreckage and determines to build herself a new life. All she has, however, are fragments of the real world, uncertain memories of life in a far-off land, images from all the books and comics she reads, and glimpses of other worlds that may or may not be real. Stealing food and dodging the authorities, watching ghost children play, she carves out a precarious niche in the ruins. But, just as she finds friendship and the prospect of security, she crosses the path of a monster who stalks and kills young girls in the blacked out streets. Determined to protect what she has fought so hard to create, Charlie sets out to destroy the one tangible element of all the evil that has blighted her young life.Thin Reflections is the first of a quartet of novels that take us through fragments of the twentieth century as they were and as they might have been. Powerful, rich, and imbued with a sense of magic, they offer a glimpse into the ways we cope when the world is torn apart around us.

Kicking through the ashes of dreams, drawing warmth from memoriesand comfort from ghosts...Watching the dreaming waters...Waiting in the heat...Savouring the scent of a rose...Dancing in the ruins...Charlotte Jennifer Grace CorneliusGlimpsed here in flickers of storm light are moments from a life with noanchor in reality. Older, sometimes wiser, always sadder, she navigatesa fractured world on the quest that has obsessed her since the longchildhood ride out of paradise in the mountains.

Visits to museums have long been an important aspect of the education of young people and in recent years it has been increasingly recognised that education is core to the purpose of the museum. Not only do they introduce students to the many and varied forms of our material culture, they also introduce them to social, historical and scientific encounters that are difficult to find elsewhere. The second edition of this popular book takes account of the ongoing changes in both museums and education to provide a comprehensive introduction for student teachers, practising teachers and other educators to all that is required to make good educational use of museums. It explores what a museum is, their value in primary and secondary education and why they require special teaching skills. It then goes on to look at the practicalities of planning, preparing and conducting a visit, including risk assessment. Next, it introduces the basic skills involved in working with the resources that are required to make the best educational use of museums, including online and digital resources. Finally, the author considers ways of following-up work done outside the classroom, including some of the longer term strategies that teachers should consider.
