Eurocode 2, Design of Concrete Structures, will apply to the design of building and civil engineering structures in plain, reinforced and pre-stressed concrete. The Code (for convenience referred to as EC2) is written in several parts:EN 1992 -1 - 1 General rules and rules for buildingsEN 1992 - 1 - 2 General rules - structural fire designEN 1992 - 2 Reinforced and pre-stressed concrete bridgesEN 1992 - 3 Liquid and containment structuresEN 1992 - 1 - 1 has been written in such a way that the principles of the Code will generally apply to all the parts. The specific rules, which only apply to building structures, are identified as such. Under the CEN (European Standards Body) rules other parts of EC2 are allowed to identify those clauses in Part 1 - 1, which do not apply to that part and provide other information that will complement Part 1 - 1.Compliance with the Code will satisfy the requirements of the Construction Products Directive in respect of mechanical resistance.

Designers’ Guide to EN 1997-1 presents a detailed guide to the new Geotechnical Design Eurocode. As such it gives an invaluable insight into a code that, for the first time, provides a comprehensive design philosophy that is not only applicable to all forms of geotechnical problems but also shares a common philosophy with the design methodology for structures of all the commonly encountered construction materials.Throughout, the book describes and explains the many unique features of ground engineering that require special design attention to ensure safety and adequate performance. Comprehensive checklists of aspects to be considered in design are given in Eurocode 7 and are emphasised in this book. This guide is essential reading forCivil and structural engineersCode-drafting committeesClientsStructural-design studentsPublic authorities.

This series of Designers’ Guides to the Eurocodes provides comprehensive guidance in the form of design aids, indications for the most convenient design procedures and worked examples. The books also include background information to aid the designer in understanding the reasoning behind and the objectives of the codes. All of the individual guides work in conjunction with the Designers’ Guide to EN1990: Basis of Structural Design.Valuable insight is given into Eurocode 6, the code that addresses unreinforced and reinforced masonry structures, where reinforcement is added to provide ductility, strength or improve serviceability, and provides the structural rules for designing a composite material comprising masonry units and mortar. This detailed guide complements the Eurocode standard, dealing with the various sub-sections of EN 1996-1-1, and explaining areas where change has overtaken the traditional approach used in the previous British Standards. The UK National Annexes for EN 1996-1-1 are also covered. This guide is essential reading forcivil and structural engineerscode-drafting committeesclientsstructural-design studentspublic authorities

The nature of the loading must first be understood before applying the structural engineering principles set out in the Eurocodes. For this reason this book is meant as a guide to four separate documents, EN1991 Part 1.2, EN1992 Part 1.2, EN1993 Part 1.2 and EN1994 Part 1.2 with reference where appropriate to the Eurocode covering the basis of design, EC06.The fire design procedures for reinforced and prestressed concrete structures are contained in the relevant parts of the code, BS81104,5. However, the structural Eurocodes consider steel, composite and concrete construction in isolation and each material therefore has its own corresponding fire part. In this case, a clause-by-clause examination of the fire parts of the material codes would not be sufficient to allow designers to use these documents. The guide takes the form of an introduction to the procedures required to achieve design solutions for a typical range of structural elements and assemblies. Worked examples are included along with appropriate text to illustrate the use of the Eurocodes for specific design scenarios. As a way of setting the scene for those unfamiliar with the basic principles of structural fire engineering design the next section provides an overview of the regulatory framework and a description of the commonly used methods for ensuring compliance with the regulations.

EN 1993-2, also known as the Eurocode 3 for steel bridges, describes the principles and requirements for safety, serviceability and durability of concrete bridges. This Designers' Guide provides the user with guidance on the interpretation and use of EN 1993-2 and also the relevant provisions in EN 1993-1-1, EN 1993-1-5, EN 1993-1-8, EN 1993-1-9, EN 1993-1-10 and EN 1993-1-11. Worked examples are provided to illustrate the use of the rules. It also explains the relationship with other Eurocode parts to which it refers (ENs 1990, 1991).The provision of background information and references also enables the users of Eurocode 3: Part 2 to understand the origin and objectives of its provisions

This guide interprets and assists in the use of EN 1995-1-1 structural timber. Showing typical material properties and dimensions; modifiers, and structural responses, it presents concise worked examples. Connections, an especially critical aspect of timber design, are thoroughly addressed. Relationships with other Eurocodes are explained, particularly those for EN 1990 Basis of Design. It cites British Standard - European Standard (BS EN) documents supporting the Construction Products Directive in structural timberwork. Copious references permit readers to investigate beyond the code background within the guide itself.

Eurocode 0, EN 1990: Basis of Structural Design is considered the primary document in the Eurocode suite which establishes for the structural Eurocodes the principles and requirements for safety and serviceability of structures. More importantly, EN 1990 must be applied whenever the Eurocodes 1 to 9 are used. This Designers' Guide was one of the first sources of detailed information on the use of EN 1990 and continues in this new edition to provide technical information on the background to the Eurocode and explains its relationship to the other Eurocodes. The background to the research-based principles and rules is discussed, emphasising the rules that differ from those in existing codes. Worked examples illustrate the use of new procedures.

This series of Designers’ Guides to the Eurocodes provides comprehensive guidance in the form of design aids, indications for the most convenient design procedures and worked examples. The books also include background information to aid the designer in understanding the reasoning behind and the objectives of the codes. All of the individual guides work in conjunction with the Designers’ Guide to EN1990: Basis of Structural Design.Eurocode 3 covers many forms of steel construction and provides the most comprehensive and up-to-date set of design guidance currently available. Throughout, this book concentrates on the most commonly encountered aspects of structural steel design, with an emphasis on the situation in buildings. Much of its content is therefore devoted to the provisions of Part 1.1 General rules and rules for buildings of EN 1993: Design of steel structures, however, this is supplemented by material on joints (Part 1.8), cold-formed design (Part 1.3), and loading (EN 1990 and EN 1991). For each of the principal aspects covered, the book provides background to the structural behaviour, explanation of the codified treatment including departure from existing practice (BS 5950) and numerous worked examples. The second edition of this popular guide has been fully updated for revisions to the code and the UK National Annex for EN 1993-1-1 (UK NA to BS EN 1993-1-1); this guide should serve as the primary point of reference for designing steel structures to Eurocode 3.This guide is essential reading forcivil and structural engineerscode-drafting committeesclientsstructural-design studentspublic authorities
