An Educational Input to Develop a Theory of Professional and Volunteer Work in Church]In 2019, the University of Religious Education in Potsdam and Berlin celebrates its 40th anniversary. The current publication commemorates this event with a historical reconstruction of the educational concepts, along with a survey of the professional reality of church community educators in three East German churches. Working with communities, communication and team working, and focusing on the questions of the daily life of people are the core values of their educational strategy. The book makes a contribution towards the ongoing discussions with regards to church theory. This contribution focuses on the cooperation of different professions in the church, and that lay people, and the professional knowledge they have, are indispensable to the church.
