Banks remain constantly in the public spotlight with their remuneration systems. The aftermath of the financial crisis saw a wave of regulations aimed at protecting banks' equity capital through sound remuneration systems. To date, however, these regulations have not been consolidated into one European sound compensation rulebook. Instead, there are a variety of different European and national regulations (such as CRD I-VI, the German Banking Act (KWG), and the German Remuneration Regulation for Institutions (InstitutsVergV)), and the objectives of the regulatory framework are constantly being expanded by legislators to include consumer protection and current ESG issues, for example. In addition, various requirements and announcements from national and international supervisory authorities have to be taken into account when it comes to remuneration. For those applying remuneration law in practice, this means that the structuring and implementation of remuneration for management boards, supervisory boards, risk takers, and bank employees is highly complex and becomes more and more difficult. The new handbook provides clear and easy to use guidance through the regulatory jungle and helps to structure remuneration in a practical and legally compliant manner. It brings together an interdisciplinary team of over 50 authors who provide insider knowledge and best practice, and impresses with its unique structure based on legal principles, regulatory requirements, and banking-specific practical topics – organized into keywords from A to Z. The interplay between the various regulations is covered, as are practical challenges and modern topics such as ESG and equal pay.
