This book constitutes the revised selected papers of the 43rd International Workshop on Graph-Theoretic Concepts in Computer Science, WG 2017, held in Eindhoven, The Netherlands, in June 2017.The 31 full papers presented in this volume were carefully reviewed and selectedfrom 71 submissions. They cover a wide range of areas, aiming at connecting theory and applications by demonstrating how graph-theoretic concepts can be applied in various areas of computer science. Another focus is on presenting recent results and on identifying and exploring promising directions of future research.

The 29th International Workshop on Graph-Theoretic Concepts in Computer Science(WG2003)washeldintheMennorodeconferenceCenterinElspeet,The Netherlands.TheworkshopwasorganizedbytheCenterforAlgorithmicSystems of the Institute of Information and Computing Sciences of Utrecht University. The workshop took place June 19–21, 2003. The 72 participants of WG 2003 came from universities and research institutes from 18 di?erent countries and ?ve di?erent continents. The workshop looks back at a long tradition. It was ?rst held in 1975, and has been held 20 times in Germany, twice in Austria, and once in Italy, Slo- kia, Switzerland, and the Czech Republic, and has now been held for the third time in The Netherlands. The workshop aims at uniting theory and practice by demonstrating how graph-theoretic concepts can be applied to various areas in computerscience,orbyextractingnewproblemsfromapplications.Itisdevoted to the theoretical and practical aspects of graph concepts in computer science. The goal is to present recent research results and to identify and explore - rections of future research. The talks given at the workshop showed how recent research results from algorithmic graph theory can be used in computer science and which graph-theoretic questions arise from new developments in computer science.

The Second International Workshop on Parameterized and Exact Computation (IWPEC) was held in Zu ¨rich, Switzerland, during September 13–15, 2006. It th was organized as a component of ALGO 2006, which also hosted the 14 - th nual European Symposium on Algorithms, the 6 Workshop on Algorithms in th Bioinformatics, the 4 Workshop on Approximation and Online Algorithms, th and the 6 Workshop on Algorithmic Methods and Models for Optimization of Railways. This meeting was the second in the IWPEC series, with the ?rst having been held in Bergen, Norway, during September 14–16, 2004. The ?eld continues to experience rapid growth, in part due to its appeal as an alternative to tra- tional complexity theory, and in part due to the powerful practical applications it has spawned. IWPEC events are intended to cover research in all aspects of parameterizedand exact computation and complexity, including but not limited to new techniques for the design and analysis of parameterized and exact al- rithms, parameterized complexity theory, relationships between parameterized complexity and traditional complexity, applications of parameterized and exact computation, implementation issues and high-performance computing. A major goal is to disseminate the latest research results, including signi?cant work-- progress, and to identify, de?ne and explore directions for future study. The papers accepted for presentation and printed in these proceedings rep- sent a diverse spectrum of the latest developments on parameterized and exact algorithm design, analysis, application and implementation.

Parameterized complexity is currently a thriving field in complexity theory and algorithm design. A significant part of the success of the field can be attributed to Michael R. Fellows. This Festschrift has been published in honor of Mike Fellows on the occasion of his 60th birthday. It contains 20 papers that showcase the important scientific contributions of this remarkable man, describes the history of the field of parameterized complexity, and also reflects on other parts of Mike Fellows’s unique and broad range of interests, including his work on the popularization of discrete mathematics for young children. The volume contains several surveys that introduce the reader to the field of parameterized complexity and discuss important notions, results, and developments in this field.
