Winfried Baumann (born 1956) is an extraordinary artist who works at the interface between art, architecture and design. Since 2001, he has dedicated himself to projects described under the umbrella term Urban Nomads. These are linked to concepts such as mobility, housing, food and transport, designed for all rough sleepers and other neo-nomads.His most recognized venture is called Instant Housing: a collection of miniature mobile living accommodation for those in need of shelter. Other groups of art works are called Instant Cooking, Instant Help and Instant Exhibition. This volume presents the images of Winfried Baumann's social art that prompt questions about human dignity. They are complemented by an exclusive interview with the artist and two essays by specialists in the field. In a time when ways of living are constantly questioned and social mobility is a requirement for all, Baumann's work invites us to reflect on our own lifestyles, and those of others.

Fabian Treiber’s (b. Ludwigsburg, 1986; lives and works in Stuttgart) paintings show what appear to be interiors while interrogating subjective projections and our perceptions of reality. The artificial spaces bear witness to human existence even though there are no people to be seen. In his still lifes, Treiber negotiates classical questions of painting: form and structure, colour and composition, representation of space and organization of the surface. His paintings primarily implement formal rather than narrative decisions. This lets the artist provoke a deliberate breach in which the ostensibly fallacious emerges as the essential quality of painting - the effect is that of works that seem somehow off but are actually just right.Fabian Treiber studied painting and intermedia design at the Stuttgart State Academy of Art and Design (ABK Stuttgart). His works have won him a Karl Schmidt Rottluff Fellowship; he was also a finalist for the 2021 Hans Purrmann Grand Prize. He has had numerous solo shows, including at Kunsthalle Nürnberg, Nuremberg; Kunstverein Ludwigsburg; and Galerie Ruttkowski;68, Cologne.

Christian Hellmich (b. 1977) creates works characterised by gestural abstraction and the asymmetrical arrangement of planes of colour, which are used to develop a kind of geometric grid pattern that dissects the pictorial space. This avoids any uniform perspective so that spaces penetrate into one another, and various image planes appear simultaneously. The fragments of motifs that Hellmich assembles are taken from his extensive image archive of photographs, magazine cuttings, Internet sources, postcards, and more. His approach is shaped by society’s handling of images in today’s mediatised age. References to architectural structures and comic-like shapes trigger associations without being clearly categorisable, thus rousing interest in their assumed decryption.Text in English and German.
