The book of Numbers tells the story of Israel’s experience, ranging from their exodus out of Egypt to their entrance into the Promised Land. The lives of two generations are recorded: the first lacking in faith and receiving their just punishment from God, and the second believing the Word of God and so entering into their inheritance as his children.Like those generations of Israelites, Christians today are also on a journey between events of deepest significance—from the work of Christ that provides our exodus from bondage to sin and death to Jesus’ second coming that ushers his children into the true and final promised land of heaven.Author Iain Duguid aids both pastors and laypeople on this journey by explaining the profundities of the biblical text, especially its less transparent portions, and communicating the lasting message of God’s devotion to those who follow him in faith.Part of the Preaching the Word series.

“A battle manual for every Christian.”—Sinclair B. FergusonThe Christian life is a battle. We are in a daily struggle against the world, sin, and Satan. But God didn’t leave us to fend for ourselves. He gave us his own armor—armor that Jesus has already worn on our behalf all the way to the cross. The same power that raised Christ from the dead is now at work inside of us. This book unpacks each of the pieces of spiritual armor Paul describes in Ephesians 6, inviting us to take up the armor each day, all while resting in the finished victory of Christ and the assurance that our strength for the battle comes from him. Strengthens Christians to trust in the power of God working for them in their battle against sinHighlights the Old Testament context of each piece of armor to illuminate deeper meaningIncludes study questions at the end of each chapter

Accessible Exposition of Acts 1–8 Shows How God’s Mission Continues After Christ’s Ascension, Through Ordinary Believers, by the Power of the Holy Spirit In their eagerness to share the gospel, modern churches can focus on the wrong things, such as political influence, attendance numbers, or ministry techniques. This is nothing new. In the book of Acts, even Jesus’s disciples wondered which of these earthly methods he would use to establish God’s kingdom. But Jesus taught his followers then—and continues to teach us today—how the church, empowered by the Holy Spirit, will take the gospel to the nations. In this accessible exposition of Acts 1–8, Iain Duguid explores the continuing work of Jesus after the ascension. Drawing practical lessons from the life of the early church, as well as his own 30 years as a church planter, Duguid encourages believers today toward gospel-driven, Spirit-filled mission. In a culture that is increasingly hostile toward Christianity, Turning the World Upside Down equips ordinary Christians to witness to the eternal power of the gospel.  Edifying: Challenges believers to take seriously the Great Commission, and grow in their knowledge and love for the gospel and one anotherComprehensive: Explores how believers can carry on God’s mission through the power of the Holy Spirit, faithful prayer, fellowship, and moreA Great Resource for Small Groups, Sunday School Classes, or Individual Study

The story of Ezra and Nehemiah plays out against a backdrop of ruins. There's a ruined city, a ruined house of worship, ruined homes—ruined life with God. As is often the case in our own lives, the wreckage was largely their own fault. Their path to rebuilding, at its core, was a journey back to God. As you study Ezra and Nehemiah with Iain Duguid, you too will be encouraged to return to the God who is always faithful.Duguid dives into lamenting sin, facing opposition, worshipping faithfully, and battling discouragement. This study will renew your joy in the Lord and encourage you to turn away from your own way and toward God, ultimately discovering Jesus is the one who rebuilds and brings new life where there is ruin and decay. This small group guide with leader's notes includes ten in-depth lessons that include discussion questions, a short article to read, and a practical application section that can be used for one-to-one discipleship, small group, or large group settings.Ezra and Nehemiah: Rebuilding What's Ruined is part of The Gospel-Centered Life in the Bible series published in partnership with Serge. He shows us the good news that the Lord is in charge, even over those who try to run from him. With rich discussion questions, exercises, and articles to encourage thoughtful responses to the text, this study guide helps readers see Jesus more clearly in the themes found in the book of Jonah.

Iain Duguid’s Thoughtful Exposition of Acts 9–18 Explores How God Uses Unexpected People to Advance the Gospel in Unexpected PlacesSaul’s conversion, from persecutor of Christians to witness for Christ, helped catapult the Great Commission. Boldly taking God’s message of undeserved grace throughout Jerusalem and beyond, he and the disciples saw the number of believers surge, particularly among Gentiles. Examining Acts 9–18, Iain Duguid offers new insights on this pivotal period in early church history. A companion to his book Turning the World Upside Down, which explores Acts 1–8, this volume follows the continued progress of the gospel and the perseverance of the saints. Duguid explains how God’s grace replaced Jewish laws concerning kosher food and circumcision. He also studies themes of judgment, healing, and the unexpected people God chooses to establish his church. As readers work through the text, they will gain a strong understanding of Christian history and God’s will for the body of Christ. Conversational and Insightful: This book offers practical, passage-by-passage exposition of Acts 9–18Comprehensive: Explains biblical themes including God’s church, healing, Old Testament covenants, deliverance, God’s resurrection power, the gifts of the Spirit, and idolatryAn Accessible Study Resource: Suitable for thoughtful Christians as well as pastors
