Is the value of reducing environmental risk greater for children than for adults? If so, what does this mean for policy makers? This report, the final output of the Valuation of Environment-Related Health Impacts (VERHI) project, presents new research findings on these key environmental policy questions. The authors estimate a "e;VSL"e; (Value of a Statistical Life) for children and adults based on new methodological approaches for valuing children's health. The survey work is distinguished by its international dimension (surveys were conducted in the Czech Republic, Italy and the United Kingdom) and by the extensive development efforts undertaken. The result: Two new survey instruments based on different methodological approaches; new estimates of the VSL for adults and children; analysis of the effects of context and other factors on risk preferences; presentation of novel ways to communicate risk, including a variety of visual aids; and insights that identify interesting paths for further study.

La rduction des risques environnementaux a-t-elle plus de valeur lorsqu'il s'agit d'enfants que lorsqu'il s'agit d'adultes ? Et si oui, quelles sont les consquences pour l'action des pouvoirs publics ? Produit final du projet sur l'valuation des impacts sur la sant lis l'environnement (VERHI), ce rapport expose les rsultats de nouveaux travaux de recherche consacrs cette importante question de politique de l'environnement. Les auteurs prsentent des estimations de la VVS (valeur d'une vie statistique) des enfants et des adultes qui sont produites sur la base de nouvelles approches mthodologiques de l'valuation de la sant des enfants. Ces travaux se distinguent par la dimension internationale des enqutes (ralises en Italie, en Rpublique tchque et au Royaume-Uni) et par un travail approfondi de mise au point. Les rsultats du projet sont multiples : deux nouveaux instruments d'enqute reposant sur des approches mthodologiques diffrentes ; de nouvelles estimations de la VVS des adultes et des enfants ; une analyse des effets du contexte et d'autres facteurs sur les prfrences en matire de risques ; des moyens originaux de prsenter les risques, dont divers supports visuels ; et des enseignements qui permettent de dgager des pistes intressantes en vue de nouvelles tudes.
