This book presents complex analysis of several variables from the point of view of the Cauchy-Riemann equations and integral representations. A more detailed description of our methods and main results can be found in the introduction. Here we only make some remarks on our aims and on the required background knowledge. Integral representation methods serve a twofold purpose: 1° they yield regularity results not easily obtained by other methods and 2°, along the way, they lead to a fairly simple development of parts of the classical theory of several complex variables. We try to reach both aims. Thus, the first three to four chapters, if complemented by an elementary chapter on holomorphic functions, can be used by a lecturer as an introductory course to com­ plex analysis. They contain standard applications of the Bochner-Martinelli-Koppelman integral representation, a complete presentation of Cauchy-Fantappie forms giving also the numerical constants of the theory, and a direct study of the Cauchy-Riemann com­ plex on strictly pseudoconvex domains leading, among other things, to a rather elementary solution of Levi''s problem in complex number space en. Chapter IV carries the theory from domains in en to strictly pseudoconvex subdomains of arbitrary - not necessarily Stein - manifolds. We develop this theory taking as a model classical Hodge theory on compact Riemannian manifolds; the relation between a parametrix for the real Laplacian and the generalised Bochner-Martinelli-Koppelman formula is crucial for the success of the method.

Das vorliegende Brich über Funktionen einer reellen Veränderlichen ist der erste Teil einer dreibändigen Darstellung der Differential- und Integralrechnung. In den folgenden Bänden sollen Funktionen mehrerer Veränderlichen, gewöhnliche Differentialgleichungen und Integrations­ theorie behandelt werden. Das Werk ist aus Vorlesungen für Studienanfänger der Mathematik und Physik hervorgegangen. Dem einführenden Charakter dieser Vor­ lesungen gemäß soll auch das Buch einem Leser, der keine Vorkenntnisse in höherer Mathematik besitzt, die Gelegenheit geben, einen möglichst strengen und systematischen Aufbau der Theorie der reellen Funktionen kennen zu lernen. Dementsprechend sind alle Beweise bis in die Einzel­ heiten hinein ausgeführt, und in den ersten Paragraphen werden wich­ tige Beweismethoden eigens erläutert. Dabei nehmen wir jedoch den logischen und mengentheoretischen Gesetzen gegenüber einen "naiven", d. h. nicht-axiomatischen, Standpunkt ein. Das gilt besonders für das Prinzip der vollständigen Induktion und damit auch für den Begriff der natürlichen Zahl und der Folge. Wir geben eine Übersicht über den Inhalt des Buches. Grundlegend ist der Begriff der reellen Zahl. Im ersten Kapitel werden die Axiome des reellen Zahlkörpers mit ihren einfachsten Folge­ rungen ausführlich besprochen; die unendlich fernen Punkte + oo und - oo werden axiomatisch miteingeführt. Die nächsten beiden Kapitel sind dem Umgebungsbegriff und dem darauf fußenden Grenzwertbegriff für Folgen und Reihen gewidmet. Da wir für die Definition der Konvergenz die natürliche (uniforme) Topologie der Zahlengeraden zugrundelegen, bleibt die Konvergenz gegen ± oo ausgeschlossen. -Die Begriffe "Iimes superior" und "Iimes inferior" sind so gefaßt, daß sie mit der Definition der halbstetigen Funktionen harmonieren.

Es werden klassische und neuere Ergebnisse der Funktionentheorie ausführlich dargestellt, z.B. homogene und inhomogene Cauchy-Riemann-Differentialgleichungen, Sätze von Mittag-Leffler und Weierstraß für beliebige Gebiete, rationale Approximation, Riemannscher Abbildungssatz. Der Text wird durch zahlreiche Übungsaufgaben ergänzt. Daher ist das Buch sowohl zum Gebrauch neben Vorlesungen als auch zum Selbststudium geeignet. In der 9. Auflage wurden einige Druckfehler korrigiert.

Dieses Buch eignet sich als Grundlage für einen Fortsetzungskurs in Analysis im 2. Studienjahr. In der Komplexen Analysis (Funktionentheorie) wird die Differential- und Integralrechnung im Bereich der komplexen Zahlen entwickelt, dies ist ein klassisches Teilgebiet der Mathematik mit vielfältigen Anwendungen, zum Beispiel in der Physik. Mit einer guten thematischen Auswahl, vielen Beispielen und ausführlichen Erläuterungen gibt dieses Buch eine Darstellung der Komplexen Analysis (Funktionentheorie) , die genau die Grundlagen und den wesentlichen Kernbestand dieses Gebietes enthält: Diese Lehreinheiten können im Bachelor-Studium in einer einsemestrigen 2-stündigen Vorlesung behandelt werden.Das Buch bietet über diese Grundausbildung hinaus weiteres Lehrmaterial als Ergänzung, sodass es auch für eine 3- oder 4-stündige Vorlesung geeignet ist. Je nach Hörerkreis kann der Stoff unterschiedlich erweitert werden. So wurden für den „Bachelor Lehramt“ die geometrischen Aspekte der Komplexen Analysis besonders herausgearbeitet.Die zahlreichen Aufgaben sind zum Teil mit Lösungen versehen und erleichtern das Lernen. Die ersten drei Abschnitte des Buches geben einen elementaren Einstieg in die Analysis in der komplexen Ebene, sodass das Buch auch zum Selbststudium gut geeignet ist.
