This book concentrates on the parallel evolution of debt crisis and digital communications in Greece. By examining four different online and social media platforms, it examines a seven-year period to uncover the impact of digital media on the contentious politics of crisis, as well as the impact of the political economic sphere on the formation of the Greek digital mediascape. The research employs cyberconflict theory to situate online mediated conflict in a geo-political, socio-political and historical context, revealing the dynamic relation between the online media and the offline world. The work provides an updated framework which recommends the use of online data and the study of social media platforms for the examination of cyberconflict. It delves into the political transformations which have emerged in the context of the Greek crisis such as the anti-/pro- austerity debate, the euro-vs-drachma debate, the anti-/pro-governmental debate, or the Grexit discussion, and shines a light on how, in the context of crisis, the online space becomes a magnifying glass which points out conflict, opposition and drives polarization.

Recent debates regarding abortion law in the US, China, and many EU countries, the rise of far-right politics, and conservatist and extremist movements indicate elevated threats for women rights and the LGBTQ community in a global context. At the same time, ‘#Metoo’ movements were structured through online platform monopolies. In Future Feminisms, female academics from around the globe critically discuss the contemporary postfeminist media culture and bring different stories together to provide opportunities to imagine a connected feminist future.Future Feminisms is an interdisciplinary exploration of the contemporary experiences of women within three different contexts - the private, public, and online spheres. Chapters explore women’s experiences of insecurity, instability and change, migration, and diaspora as experienced in both physical and digital communication environments. The diversity of the topics and the thought-provoking chapters are divided into the three sections of ‘Gender, Migration, and Decolonization’, ‘Digital Gender Activism’, and ‘Motherhood, Home, and Work’.The juxtaposition of how women experience technology, digital media, activism, and feminism is explored through performative practices, including digital, thereby providing an innovative approach in relation to the interplay between political action, the body and artistic works.

Contains an Open Access chapter.Protest Technologies and Media Revolutions portrays the critical role of mass connection in the success of any movement, resurrection, protest, and revolution. The communication mechanisms for this connection have, at times, evolved and elsewhere undergone revolutions of their own. Authors debate this relationship, and the strategies and lessons of 'connecting to the masses' considering the development of media, technology and communication strategies over the last century. Key topics covered include revolution, communication, protest and technology, spanning from the Russian Revolution to the present day.The discussion is not limited to historic cases of technology and revolution, nor to contemporary ones. The book, therefore, generates a debate about how art, media and communication technologies have been operationalized to connect, mobilize and organize, in different historical times, and in diverse national, political, and socio-economic contexts.
