Irvine Welsh föddes 1958 i Edinburgh, Skottland och är en av de mest inflytelserika brittiska författarna under de senaste decennierna. Han är mest känd för sin debutroman Trainspotting (1993), vars ikoniska filmatisering 1996, med Ewan McGregor i huvudrollen, tog biopubliken världen över med storm.
Welsh växte upp i en miljö präglad av arbetslöshet, ekonomiska svårigheter och stora sociala förändringar – erfarenheter som senare kom att prägla nästan allt han skrev. Han har förutom böcker även skrivit flera pjäser, filmer, kortfilmer och journalistik.
