The Definitive Guide to Petroleum Reservoir Engineering–Now Fully Updated to Reflect New Technologies and Easier Calculation Methods

Craft and Hawkins’ classic introduction to petroleum reservoir engineering is now fully updated for new technologies and methods, preparing students and practitioners to succeed in the modern industry. In Applied Petroleum Reservoir Engineering, Third Edition, renowned expert Ronald E. Terry and project engineer J. Brandon Rogers review the history of reservoir engineering, define key terms, carefully introduce the material balance approach, and show how to apply it with many types of reservoirs.

Next, they introduce key principles of fluid flow, water influx, and advanced recovery (including hydrofracturing). Throughout, they present field examples demonstrating the use of material balance and history matching to predict reservoir performance. For the first time, this edition relies on Microsoft Excel with VBA to make calculations easier and more intuitive.

This edition features

Extensive updates to reflect modern practices and technologies, including gas condensate reservoirs, water flooding, and enhanced oil recovery Clearer, more complete introductions to vocabulary and concepts– including a more extensive glossary Several complete application examples, including single-phase gas, gas-condensate, undersaturated oil, and saturated oil reservoirs Calculation examples using Microsoft Excel with VBA throughout Many new example and practice problems using actual well data A revamped history-matching case study project that integrates key topics and asks readers to predict future well production

Updated and revised, this second edition applies advanced financial analytics within a strategic framework that recognizes an environment where sustainable competitive advantage is a progressively more difficult task. Real Options offer the link to value and the strategic opportunities that lie in an increasingly dynamic landscape

Updated and revised, the third edition frames strategy as delivering firm value in both the short and long term while maintaining a sustainable competitive advantage. These issues are examined through industry evolution, the rise of the information economy, financial analysis, corporate and quantitative finance, and risk management concepts.

Job migration across international boundaries and jobless economic "recoveries" are the latest disruptions in the workplace''s human equation. To help policy makers, employers and employees to address these issues, Divanna and Rogers propose a more rigorous approach to Human Capital. They point out that the emergence of stronger measures, management techniques and balance sheet valuations was a key enabler to the emergence of dynamic financial capital markets and international exchanges. This book puts forth a framework for measuring, managing and negotiating issues of human business value. It looks at how policymakers, employers and employees can achieve common ground when productivity threatens job loss or avoid the zero sum view that pits international trade against domestic employment.

In the 1990s shareholder value was applied to all aspects of corporate strategy and management decisions as a result of intense competition, globalization, advances in technology, deregulation and the financial markets. As we enter the twentyfirst century the business environment is one of increasing creative destruction, where competitive advantage is much harder to sustain. Real Options , a type of advanced financial analysis, applies financial option theory to real assets and offers a strategic framework that recognizes the need for management flexibility and to leverage risk in this corporate environment.

Managers of drinking water utilities face the difficult task of identifying appropriate levels of renewal and replacement spending, and achieving buy-in for the required funding levels from boards and councils. This project was commissioned to provide the framework to identify and test several levels of asset management planning, using samples of assets from a dozen participating utilities. As water utilities strive to implement appropriate strategies for managing their considerable treatment plant and distribution assets, they are faced with challenges that include (1) fully valuing water in a marketplace whose customers and policymakers have become accustomed to below market rates for service, and (2) developing more strategic asset management programs in the face of increased funding competition. Most articles, papers, and publications on asset management are based on theoretical examples or single- case studies. This project was designed by AwwaRF as a management study to help address the lack of comparative case studies. The study provides the first casebook that utility managers, finance directors, engineering managers, and interested persons can use to see the kind of information that they would get from varying levels of asset management. The study also identified a number of priority actions for future industry research to further advance the state of knowledge and practice, based on limitations encountered in efficiently populating data sets for this study.
